Please help!!

According to the WRH lesson breakdown, lesson 5 of the calculations unit is meant to be: To understand and explain why long multiplication is an efficient method.

I seriously don't know what I'm supposed to do with this!

Obvious answer is ditch it and move on but my school is super-hot on sticking to the lesson breakdown precisely so this isn't an option. If anyone can help, I would be really grateful.

I would do something along the lines of when you would pick long multiplication over short perhaps and then when using long multiplication isn't necessary e.g. 24x11 would be more efficient to do 24 x 10 and add one.

I'd totally be skipping this and the requirement to sick to the lesson breakdown is bizarre.

Is it meant to be discussing how efficient it is compared to other multiplication methods? (I assume this is column method?)

So compare the number of calculations/time needed to do 24 x 56 by doing e.g. 20 x 50 20 x 6 50 x 4 and 4 x 6 and adding them together with column?
