Laptop recommendation for PGCE / NQT

My DH has just started a secondary maths PGCE. What laptop would teachers / students recommend pls? We have used mac desktop and iPad - the desktop is now too aged and full of music / photos. iPad just too lightweight.

Have beeen recommended to Dell but DH got some John Lewis vouchers from his previous employer so keen to use this if poss.

Practical suggestions much appreciated as to what spec / capacity he needs. Thanks

Get the smallest, lightest and most transportable possible. I love Macs/Apple but most schools run microsoft software and the fit isn't perfect (and can be frustrating). It needs to be powerful enough to run the software for interactive whiteboards too (Keynote, etc).

Microsoft Surface Pro. I love mine and use it for EVERYTHING at work.

He may not be allowed to hook his own laptop up to school whiteboards etc. We are not- we all have to use the school laptops we are issued.

Obviously not on PGCE, but once your DH gets a permanent position for NQT he may well get a standard issue, so don't spend too much.

Our pgce students get issued with a laptop to use while on placement (they're generally the oldest, crappiest laptops that the ICT support staff can keep running). No other laptops are allowed to connect to our WiFi because they won't have the same virus protection as the school ones and the ICT support staff don't have time to check out extra laptops.
