Releasing some cash by not building Free Schools can only be sensible.

I don't think the extra money will go very far, but it might buy a few extra boxes of pencils... and right now every pencil counts!

This has a side effect, however. Free schools were one of two ways a new school could be provided. The other is for Councils to run an academy competition. This is, of course, providing a site can be located and a sponsor or two found. The free school route was a great deal quicker. As you may or may not know, councils are no longer allowed to build or provide new schools. Close down one of the two roads to new provision and you introduce considerable lag in getting new places provided, and leave councils at the mercy of academy trusts. The best way to bring more money to schools is to stop voting Conservative.

And I believe this new money doesn't equal the money that was cut from the budget so still a net loss.

Oh look, the IFS says this represents a real terms cut of 4.6% from 2015 to 2019.

Lets hope any additional funding will be spent on teaching the basics such as literacy, numeracy and science as opposed to the gender bender claptrap being spouted at the moment. I am not a regular reader of this particular source of "news" however if this is true then it smacks of coercion, cognitive dissonance and pseudoscience:

Very little is true on that 'news' source. I wouldn't trust it in the slightest. I have taught trans pupils and have had no 'indoctrination training'.

The ATL can't make anything compulsory. They're a teaching union.

I know it is a teaching union, I was a member of it. They state quite clearly they are introducing compulsory gender diversity training - did you actually read the response?

I did read the response. It says:

"ATL believes that PSHE and SRE should be compulsory in all schools so it can help young people to become resilient, well-rounded, and confident adults."

"ATL believes teachers need help to become confident in teaching PSHE in their schools through better initial teacher training in PSHE, ongoing continuing professional development and up-to-date guidance and training."

"Schools and colleges should be proactive in their approach to creating trans-inclusive policies for both staff and students and they must create an environment in which everyone, whatever their gender identity, feel equally welcome and valued, and in which transphobic, sexist attitudes and behaviours are challenged"

Nothing in there about introducing compulsory gender diversity training, just that they believe schools should be proactive at combating transphobia and that teachers should have the support and training to do this.

Yup, nothing there about a trans agenda either! Paranoid nonsense.
