Non teaching role - career prospects limited?

Have seen non-teaching (pt) role advertised and I just can't make up my mind whether it would be a good idea to apply for it. I have the relevant experience and would like to do it.

But, in the distant future, I think I am aiming for deputy roles. Do you think giving up being in the classroom is a bad move, career wise? This role is SLT level but specialised and I would want to do it for a number of years. I'm worried that time out of the classroom would count against me in the future. Surely a deputy would need to have recent teaching experience? I'm also worried I would miss being with the children although this role would still mean working with children.

My current school will be less than thrilled if I leave.

Decisions, decisions.

I always think it's like working on a newspaper and being either in sales or editorial.

Most people don't do both but it doesn't mean you can't.
