Should i be worried with this report?

My child (yr 10) is fairly bright and is top set at their state comp. Obviously everyone is concerned at the new GCSE system and how it will pan out - this is my child's recent cycle report. It doesn't look good to us but really i have no clue if it's something to worry about or not or how it compares to their peers. Feedback from teachers here is welcomed, thanks.

I am not secondary but my understanding is that nationally, the expectation is that roughly the same proportion of those who would have achieved A and A* will be achieving 7 or above. If that makes sense. So the GCSE target grade looks ok to me.

Was there any explanatory info with it at all?

The new GCSEs are graded 1-9, with 9 being the highest, so it looks like your child is on course to do absolutely brilliantly... I don't know where they got the '10' from though...

There is no grade 10... You'll need to clarify what grading system they're using, it makes no sense to use GCSE grades as targets whilst using some random internally generated system for current attainment.

Our reports usually come with a separate sheet called "Report Grade Descriptors".

Obviously the first two columns on your report are not used nationwide but is a grading system used by your school. Perhaps there is a separate sheet that you haven't received or they may have this on their website. You can then read it in the context of the descriptors.

Ours not only says what each Grading is but also tells you the percentage of the child in that year group getting that grade (which shows where they are within the year group too - eg. top 5 % 6-20%, 20-55%, 56-75% lower 25% etc.

They also separate out grades for effort from achievement.

The 10 is the Yr. so 10.7 - is levrl 7. Sorry, thought state schools might all use same format for reports.

Ah. In that case, I would want to know what is going on in Biology, as there appears to be quite a gap between current grade and teacher expected.

Other than that, I don't know how accurate predicted grades can possibly be at the minute. It's not the teachers' fault, everything is changing.

You'll probably have to contact the teachers to get a clearer idea of what's going on, how your DC is doing relative to their peers and how they can improve etc. etc.

Double-check Biology because it looks out of place. Ignore the rest as no one has the faintest idea what's going on with the new GCSEs and teachers are using random number generators for current levels and predictions.

For my y10s Ive said its a slow and steady approach to their targets. Id not expect them to be there yet so under target grade for some makes perfecr sense.
