Children who can't make friends (lower ks2)

Can anyone point me towards any research/writing on how to help children who find socialising difficult but really want to make friends? Interventions? PhD papers? Don't want to give details on here obviously but I really want to do something to make a lovely but socially inexperienced and awkward little person happier in class/playground. Started much later than others but not new to school now. Other new children have fitted straight in because they have more experience at how to socialise. Am open to any ideas, however off the wall they sound.

Thank you

Do social stories targeting the undesirable traits work? If so you could work on them with her one by one.

Any chance of her having an ASC?

Chatty does NOT mean no social communication issues. My ds's (diagnosed AS) could monologue for hours on a topic they are interested in but find making and keeping friends nigh on impossible. SALT cover social communication issues just as much as problems with verbal articulation. They will have lots of strategies for the types of issues you are describing so might be worth contacting them informally for advice.

One, your post is exactly what I was thinking. I know two v chatty dc who have potential ASC and SALT social skills help.
