I'm currently a TA, but I am hoping to apply for the PGCE this year (secondary level)

I would like something relevant to read in the meantime - I'm thinking along the lines of class control, learning strategies etc, just as a bit of self improvement and preparation for the future

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Kyriacou, Haydn, any teaching practice 'handbook'...there are several classics like 'getting the buggers to behave'...

"Getting the buggers to behave" is brilliant and quite funny on, well, class behaviour management.
