End of year present

Hi,
I am posting here as I was hoping to get the opinion of teachers rather than parents.
I don't normally do end of year presents due to financial constraints etc but my DS has had the same teacher for 2 years and next year will have another, so I thought that this year I might get her something small. Most parents seem to be getting wee gift sets from Sainsburys (soap/shower gel etc), which I would hate to receive loads of myself.
Would a bottle of wine be acceptable? or is that just something that you just don't buy for teachers.

We love wine! We also love coffee vouchers and then you don't risk teacher being anti alcohol.
Most of all we love a personal, specific note saying what you liked about our work. Even better when you send a copy to the Head too!!

I don't like smellies either.

I do like chocolate , but I know quite a few teachers who are always on a diet so they wouldn't appreciate that.

Does your DC know what his teacher likes? Dd2 knows her teacher likes wine, and hula hoops (apparently she takes them in her packed lunch when they go on trips). Dd1 was always useless when it came to figuring stuff like that out, she'd look blankly at me if I ever asked.

The best gifts I get are cards saying how I've helped a child and the difference I've made to them. A £5 Costa card inside would be very much appreciated if you want to, but that's my no means necessary. A card that you've put thought into is worth far, far more than a gift.

A card with a heartfelt message would be really appreciated - no present necessary IMHO.

Would a selection of homemade cakes for the staff room be weird?

As a teacher, I would appreciate a card with a heartfelt message and an email to the head expressing your gratitude for my efforts more than any traditional gift of wine, chocolate, etc.
