New head of faculty

So if your faculty had appointed a new head of faculty and they were coming in to join you on a July INSET day, what would you want them to do in their allotted faculty time as an introduction? Just keen to hear people's ideas and suggestions.

Hear about the faculty 's ideas to improve attainment or streamline workload.
Bring cake

How do they view the the position, what do they need from thier manager .
What are they must proud of as a faculty ?
What are their priorities for improvement?

Who has INSET in July? We'd be fit for nothing. Maybe a review of the year would be nice - what went well and even better if style to avoid a whingefest. Make notes.

Don't do what a previous HoD of mine did and tell everyone all about the million of things that need improvement (with the subtext that we were all rubbish) and told us all about the sixty million extra things he would require us to do (in addition to, you know, the teaching etc) in order to improve.
That went down like a lead balloon.

Combination. You want to hear everyone 's views and as there will always be someone gobby who dominates it, you need written responses. However you need to develop rapport and find out who the gobby ones are - need a discussion. And discussion will help develop any tenuous ideas :)
