I'm nervous. Currently doing my pgde part time over 18 months whilst working. Studying going ok. Lots and lots of reading and blogging and fitting it in around family and work but I'm managing. Supportive husband and other students are only a phone call away. Tomorrow I go into school for 2 weeks orientation. And the nerves have kicked in big time. I'm excited but I'm also scared. I hate feeling like a spare part. Do teachers like having students? I'm older than the average fresh out of uni. Will that be a good thing? Any last minute tips? Have done my research on the school. I know it's a p4 class I'm going into. I know the area roughly. I have made my packed lunch lol. Have yet to decide how smart I should dress but that's minor compared to the butterflies in my stomach. help ma boab!!!!

I love having good students.
If the student is willing to learn, listens to advice, does as they're asked and actually likes the kids, I love having them about. My colleagues do too.
Students that don't listen and think they know it all are a pain, though.

Thanks lily. I love kids. Genuinely do. Have 3 of my own. Plus do the brownies. Admittedly only been doing that a few months but it's fab. Very willing to listen and do as I'm told. Definitely not a know it all. There are a few on my course though thanks for replying. I will keep smiling and listening.

Take your own mug! Less stressful than trying to work out the system. Be a good role model for the kids. Don't talk over the teacher. Be kind but not a walkover. Good luck. Schools are used to students.

Ach, you'll be fine. Take some biscuits into the staff room one day and they'll all love you. A packet of chocolate digestives will buy anyone's love at my school.

Oh and how smart should I be? Some of the head teachers at a recent event were very glam with heels. I was thinking just plain dress and flats! ( old gimmer has bunions) or dress and boots?? Too casual?

Make sure you can bend over a table, sit on the floor etc without exposing yourself. A dress and flats or boots fine. Take a warm coat for outside duties.

We like students as long as they work hard and take advice. You will be fine. If in doubt, go for a bit smarter on day 1 then see what everyone else is wearing.

Depends on the school. Be conservative. Trousers and a blouse for first day should be fine. Nothing above the knee, no cleavage, shoulders covered.

I survived. Teacher was absolutely lovely. Super organised though. I have no idea how I can ever be like that. Total control of the class. Kids were great. Few live wires but brilliant. Maths , PE and literacy in the afternoon. Really enjoyed it. Tried not to get in the way. Great day. Thanks

It's like driving a car. There's so much to do and remember and you feel at first like you won't ever be able to remember everything. And it's hard. Bloody hard work. But eventually it gets easier. Such a worthwhile profession.

So glad you enjoyed it. I loved being a student teacher. You learn so much at breakneck pace. I'm a P4 teacher and it's such a great age and stage. Enjoy it!

Day 2 even better. Although I'm still completely overwhelmed at the amount of behind the scenes organisation and planning and still in awe of how it gets to be done. Spent some time with a p7 class today and with an additional support teacher. Even got some time outside and a bit of French (boy am I rusty). Veering between I love this and omg I will never be able to do this lol
