I teach in a tiny, remote secondary and do not have any responsibility for anything other than my own subject. So, my interest is merely a combination of parental curiosity (DS is gay) and being interested as a teacher (one pupil wrote about this in a recent piece for me - a letter of complaint that all sex ed was hetero-sexist).
What do schools do in sex ed / PSE / Health Ed to address the needs of lgbt pupils? I had an interesting discussion with DS around the issue of consent and whether a discussion needed to be had with girls on their own as (in my opinion) low self-esteem often led to them consenting to things they might not really want to do (saying Yes when they mean No).
But....presumably more forward thinking schools than mine have addressed these issues. How?
I raised it today as a general issue but would be interested to know what schools / teachers do. What is policy? I am in Scotland, if that makes a difference, but interested in what is done all over.
