Things that will definitely happen on the first day back

The server WILL be down.

The staff laptops WILL have lost contact with the reprographics room.

I WILL be feeling stabby about the 'oh hello, did you have a lovely summer?' small talk by 9.30am.

The photocopier will not communicate with my classroom computer.

Assembly will run over.

There will be a new marking policy ... again.

My classroom will have no Internet connection.

Children not on the list will turn up

Children on the list won't turn up

No one will be able to find the stencils for the lettering

No one will be able to find the art cupboard key

My mug will be missing

We've had building work done and everything renumbered, which means that only Y7 will be able to navigate successfully for the first month.

The new rotas drawn up during the holidays will be on their 6th re-draft by lunchtime.
At break time someone will realise no fruit has been delivered.
Everyone will be discovering which part of their classroom has been overlooked by the 'deep clean'.
There will be a huge fistfight over the under-ordered glue sticks/stationery/laminating sheets ('But I thought 100 would be enough!' wails admin)

'Can't believe where the 6 weeks has gone!'

The English Department will be blamed for all the ills of the world the school's banding. Or the maths department.

Within the first ten minutes back, someone will exclaim 'Only seven weeks til half term!'

At least three of the classrooms will have been flooded due to works on new roof (which haven't been finished)

I will become very, very hangry half way through INSET session 2.

Five minutes before class begins I will find a spelling mistake on a name label that I spent hours proofreading.
