New to job sharing

I'm currently on mat leave and will be returning to work 3 days a week from September job sharing in YR with another teacher (2days).

I've never job shared before, I've always worked full time, has anyone got any tips on making it work? In terms of planning, assessments, parents eves, responsibilities, parents etc. I've not met the other teacher yet, I hope she's nice!

When I job shared in reception we planned our own days.

Communication is key, and you do more between you than one full timer but the pay off is the complete days off with your children.

Assessment wise we took joint responsibility for observations and record keeping but split the reports between us.

I now job share higher up the school and we split the subjects for planning and mark all our own days work.

Parents evenings we do one each each time.

Inset days I do three out of every five, same with staff meetings.

I kept my core subject responsibility as part of the deal, plus a foundation subject. And I run after school clubs all year.

I do work in a very supportive school though with management who appreciate me . I've heard of part timers with far worse deals!

I've been part time 9 years since having dd and love my job. This really depends on having a job share partner who completely pulls their weight, pm me if you want more info....

Communication - meeting together is better than leaving notes. Are you having time together for joint planning?
You need to check with school when your PPA is scheduled; how many meetings/INSETs you'll be expected to attend.
As you're Reception I am assuming that you will both be going to the welcome meetings/trial days for the new intake - can you arrange to meet your job share teacher beforehand?

Also leave things tidy for your job share - classroom, desk etc.

We won't have our ppa together so I think we'll have to make sure we email/phone regularly.

I'm going to meet the other teacher nearer the end of term to talk about the welcome meetings and stay and plays etc.
