Ups and mat leave

I'm due to go on maternity leave with my 2nd child beginning of July. I am on m5 and if I wasn't going on Mat leave then I would def apply as I would be in a strong position. My question is should I apply anyway? Is mat leave a reason to be refused?

No you can get it before you go but might not be paid until you return. I am still on ups1 despite going through threshold in 2003..... Bit of time out and maternity leave scuppered moving up.

A leave for maternity shouldn't make a difference, otherwise it's sex discrimination

Ask for info about how they deal with such cases from a hr point of view

Hiya. I would have been due to apply for ups1 in September but will be on maternity leave from next week! :) my head actually approached me and told me to get all the bits done before I go so they can put me through for September even though I won't be there. Hope you can do the same. I just had to be observed by him and hand in a few bits of evidence and I'm done! X

There is no being 'due' to apply any more. You can apply for UPS at any time.

My school link it with performance management review though which is in September

Sorry - I didn't mean that you can apply any time in the year, but at any time in your career. There's now nothing to stop someone on M3 applying for it if they feel that they can meet the standards, for example.

I lost out on progression up the upper pay scale due to maternity leave.

Yes, it shouldn't happen.
But when the reality is that the county I work in relates progression up the scale to having had 2 successful PM reviews.

I went off to have DD2 at the end of Sept and wasn't returning til July, so no targets were set. It put me back another year.
