World book day - costume ideas!

As a trainee teacher, I have thus far managed to avoid any dress up days because they've all been on a Friday which is my day in Uni Grin Unfortunately, some bugger made World Book Day on a sodding Wednesday Confused

I'm pretty useless at any making stuff (unless it's ridiculously simple) but all the bought ones look slightly pornographic Shock I'm neither the right age, nor have the right figure for such things.

Soooo. Any ideas please?

Erm...it's on Thursday 5th Grin

Didn't want to let you turn up in costume on the wrong day!

I feel your pain...it's shocking, the amount of porny fancy dress out there.

I'm going as The Woman In Black. I'm doing the Victorian thing, but you could just wear all black. You'd still be The Woman In Black.

LBD, shades, pearls, cheap tiara - Holly Golightly?

Red dress - Curley's wife?

Twenties style stuff - Daisy Buchanan?

Rolled up jeans, check shirt, hat - Scout Finch?

Sixties style dress a magnifying glass and notebook - Nancy Drew?

Sylviesleep · 25/02/2015 20:32

Granny clothes and a burglar mask - gangsta granny?

notnowImreading · 25/02/2015 20:41

I'm doing Curley's wife. I've got red mules and a wig and everything. I'm excited.

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/02/2015 20:49

Ha! Brilliant Shock I was about to dress myself up (and send my own dc's in costume) on the wrong day Grin. Thanks for the heads up and the suggestions. Scout Finch, Holly Golightly and Gangsta Granny all sound do able with stuff I already have (or can easily get). Is it usually a character from a book that will be familiar to the children? I'm in primary.

Ah. Probably not Holly GoIightly or Curley's wife then. Professor McGonagall is easy if you've still got your academic gown and a tartan scarf.

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 20:52

Ah, primary...

jeans, red and white striped top, bobble hat, glasses - Where's Wally?

stevienickstophat · 25/02/2015 20:53

Old fashioned nightgown - Wendy.

MrsLettuce · 25/02/2015 20:59

Mr Twit

Miss Honey

I'm going as one of the 3 little pigs - jeans, checked shirt, boots (could use wellies, builders hard hat, pipe cleaner tail, egg box snout and my toddlers plastic hammer and screwdriver.

Enjoy.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 21:34

Julia Donaldson is a rich seam I think if you are KS1: stick man (brown/black clothes, leaf headdress), old lady from a Squash and a Squeeze (if you have long hair), Princess Pearl from Zog.

Anything from the Wizard of Oz.

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/02/2015 21:57

It's KS2 (yr 6). I've only been there for 2 weeks and my own dc's are ks1 so I'm not too well versed on books popular with year 6's yet.

I think the other yr6 teachers are going as Miss Honey and Trunchball. Hmmmm. Some great ideas though. Keep 'em coming!

Could you go as Matilda to keep the theme going. Our school usually the teacher/ta's go as characters from one book.

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/02/2015 22:35

It's a possibility. Just feel a bit daft as a 40+ year old Matilda. I'm overthinking this aren't I? ConfusedWink

Go as Matilda's mum. Tarty, too much makeup, fag, bingo card. Or her dad!

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/02/2015 18:44

Ha! I could do that one with minimal dressing up Wink

Mrs Weasley would be easy and 40+ is the right age.

If you want simple get a temporary tattoo of a dragon and be, well, the girl with the dragon tattoo.

Beautifullymixed · 01/03/2015 01:16

I went as Handa's surprise last year. The kids all guessed who i was and I surprised myself by really enjoying dressing up.
