Help. NQT - I've got an interview and I've gone blank!!!

Hoping someone can inspire me.....I've almost finished my nqt year but my contract ended so I'm back looking for a job. I've got an interview next week for a year 4 job but besides the odd day of supply in ks2 all my experience has been early years or ks1. I have to teach a year 4 a literacy writing lesson that lasts no more than 30 minutes but I don't know what to do or where to start!

Look at the year 3/4 national curriculum (the new one) objective and start from there. Please don't google a lesson as it will show.

In half an hour you're not going to get an extended piece of writing out of them! I agree - google the relevant part of the new national curriculum and pick a writing skill to teach. I would probably do some kind of sentence level work - maybe adding descriptive language to a boring sentence. You could them follow up by giving them a picture to write a descriptive scene setting for. Remember - be clear about what your objective is, what you want the children to learn from your lesson and what you want them to be able to do at the end of the lesson that they couldn't do at the beginning. I'd also be ready for the post-lesson discussion at the start of your interview to ask you questions relating to that (What do you think the children learnt? Which group's learning were you most pleased with?)

Thanks for that. I was beginning to think about giving them pictures and getting them to use wow words to describe whar they can see and they doing some peer reviews to improve/extend their descriptions. Will google the new nc and come back with more ideas.
