Sec Eng HODs - would you feel pestered?

I have posted on here before about trying to get some shadowing experience in a local secondary school. I've been told that I need this before I can be accepted as a supply teacher (I was a full time teacher for 7 years before taking the next 7 years off to be with my kids).

So far I have emailed a couple of HODs asking if they would be happy to let me in for a brief time to shadow their department but haven't had any replies.

It's awkward because I certainly do not want to be hounding anyone - these, after all are the schools that I will be applying to soon enough - but I don't feel like the HODs want me to come in so am feeling a little stuck.

Would the thought of someone coming in and shadowing your department for a week make you want to help or ignore them?

Is there some way of approaching this differently. I know that HODs are exceptionally busy.

Maybe try getting in touch with the member of SLT responsible for teacher training. That would be more likely to work at my school.
