Old students getting in touch with you

I hope nobody minds me posting in this topic. I wasn't sure where else to ask!

I was particularly close to my head of sixth form when I was there 15 years ago. She left the school at the same time as me (not to retire, although I imagine she has by now) and asked me to keep in touch. I'm ashamed to say I didn't, due mostly to mental health problems but also because I was embarrassed about how my life had turned out.

I'm now in a great place and would love to contact her. Do you think it would be ok for me to email the old girls' association and ask them to forward a letter or email from me? Would you find that creepy or inappropriate? I'd just love to thank her for everything she did for me.

Thanks :)

I am in contact with a lot of my old year groups, I love to hear about how their life has turned out! Have you done a search on Facebook?

Blithereens · 18/06/2014 18:37

I have, but I can't find her and also my FB is under a fake name with no pictures or identifying info due to nutcase relatives.

I have, however, found the deputy head, and I know they were friends. I might try her!

I'm having a sudden horror that she might have died. She was already white-haired when I left school. Oh, please let her be alive! And remember me! I don't want it to be too late to contact her.

I would be delighted to receive a letter from a former student in those circumstances. Not an email, so much, as I wouldn't want to feel obliged to start a conversation, but a letter or card would be lovely.

Thanks both.

Well, good news: the old Deputy Head is still in touch with her! She couldn't give me her address (obviously) but said to send her a little email with my address etc and she would forward it, so I've done that. Even if she never writes back I'm just so glad I've had the opportunity to thank her.

She also somehow got me to agree to write an article for the newsletter Hmm teachers! They never change Wink
