"Happy Slapping" teachers and THAT pie incident

There's a thread in aibu regarding the recent "happy slapping" of a teacher.

The man who did this has a petition which is gaining support. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anywhere to register support for the teacher.

If you have any suggestions then come on over.

Could you start a counter-petition - maybe on the same site? I'm assuming it is one of those public petition sites.

Would love to but we are all a bit confounded as to whether we can start a petition in someone else's name?

Any ideas as to what we could do are greatly appreciated.

I see no reason why you can't start a petition stating that "We, the undersigned, do not believe that Jacob Dowdle should not be reinstated at his school. Furthermore, we wish to show our support for the school's willingness to support the right of their teachers to carry out their jobs without being assaulted".

It might not carry any legal weight, but it would demonstrate that there are people who do not believe that the school over-reacted, and would, at least provide a counter-weight to Jacob's petition.

Read the thread, even the op changed their mind after reasoned discussion. We could at least email the thread to the school???

I think I would focus more on the right for a teacher to work without being attacked or having footage of that attack uploaded onto YouTube.

It's the fact that she has been humiliated and vilified in her own town for being a victim. Yet, the sympathy is with him?

'Cos he's just a lad, boys will be boys etc etc etc

Apparently it was on the BBC news a minute ago.

Missed it because I just woke up.

I would sign too. I'm at a loss as to why anyone would have sympathy with the student stupid at best but I thought it cruel tbh.

I just saw the interview on BBC1, not sure if
Naga was playing devil's advocate but she really underplayed it initially.
Francis Gilbert called it as it is; assault.

I was so pleased at the response on that thread.
I worked in residential childcare for years and was assaulted and threatened on a daily basis.
My car was damaged, staffs bags and phones stolen, a member of staff with a broken arm and one a rib. Sexual threats were common place.
We avoided calling the police but as a last resort we sometimes had to.
The young people were around 12-17 all on remand.
The police attitude was that "in your job it's expected you may be assaulted"
Unbelievable. In their job it's surely more likely they are assaulted but they always press charges!
That poor teacher must have felt humiliated and so angry, I hope the little bit gets his comeuppance.

Well - the more he pushes his story into the press, and the bigger it gets, the more it will haunt him later on in life. Prospective employers who google him will find this story, and his lack of remorse, and hopefully they will think twice about employing him.

Even if it was just a prank which got out of hand (which I don't believe - from what I've read, he didn't seem to like the teacher), he should have apologised and kept his head down, and minimised the spread of the story, for his own sake and for hers. He didn't. He condoned the uploading of the film to YouTube, and then was surprised when there were nasty repercussions for him.

Tbh, if I was an employer, I wouldn't want that sort of stupid working for me, even if I was prepared to turn a blind eye to the assault!

It is unacceptable behaviour. It is not right that it is being laughed off and she is basically being treated like a spoilsport or something, and he is being treated like the comic genius of the 21st century

Also, and I cannot stress this enough, we have a great many sheep in the world. How many people are now going to get a pie in the face?

I think that it is important to say no, this is unacceptable and there are consequences for this behaviour because if you don't, then not only does this silly boy get away (get rewarded!) for damned foolish behaviour, not only does he arrogantly believe that it was ok for him to do it, not only does this teacher feel humiliated, but it opens the floodgates for many copycat cases. You just wait. I predict a wave of it.

Yet he has been offered a job by an entrepreneur, Lawrence Jones.

He is on Twitter if you want to see him defending his actions.

Completely rewards bad behaviour.

He's got a petition now? Jeepers. Ok, now his parents need to say to him, look mate. She didn't like it. She didn't think it was funny. So enough with the protesting. Shut up. Apologise. That's the way forward and will show more moral backbone to the governors than a petulant petition. (Although he is actually sealing his own fate so I'd let him get on with it tbh.)

Dsis (a teacher) had an incident where she was parodied by a pupil on social media. She's a popular teacher. The kids thought it would be 'a laugh'. The parents were absolutely mortified and the pupils got a clear message from home and school that they had gone too far.

This young man's self deluded belief that he has been hard done by is being backed up by someone. I'd say the parents need to grow up too.

I'd sign. I only read the intial reports and was shocked at the 'all a bit of a laugh' approach. It IS assault.

So, by reading this thread, this stupid young man has started a petition, and is being supported by his parents?

words fail me.
