Hi, had anyone who has moved into the independent sector fro a state school had any issue with schools refusing to provide references?

I have moved from state to independent twice with no ref issues. Why are the refusing? Union?

MrsYoungSalvoMontalbano · 09/01/2014 06:35

Thanks! Not yet refusing - a colleague who is thinking of moving is concerned as HT is vociferously anti independent schools (as well as faith and selective schools and is anxious this might be the case.

Ha ha, thank you! Hopefully they'll make snide and predictable comments to your friend about elitism, but remain totally professional with their reference.

Lottiedoubtie · 10/01/2014 07:11

I've never head a problem with the reference either.

Although if it is likely to be a massive problem your friend could mention to the new head that the other one does have a difference of opinion about independents...

Jellytotsforme · 10/01/2014 17:13

It would be completely unprofessional in my view not to provide a factual reference. As would making any judgemental comments about your friends choice to leave her current employment.

Thanks all. He spoke to the Head today who was fine, laughed and joked (?) that he would be welcome back when he got bored with the lesser challenge and the type of parents he would be dealing with Grin.

As I said - predictable! I've had similar in the past!
