French teachers - A level literature

I am just about to choose a new book for my A level French class to study. Has anybody got any recommendations of books that their pupils have really loved? I teach three girls who are on course for an A at AS level.

Camus any day for me.

If they are keen historians they might enjoy Un Sac de Billes - Joseph Joffo. It links very well with a history study on the Occupation during WW2.

A bit of women's writing? Christiane Rochefort's Les Petits enfants du sie`cle still on the syllabus? She's one of my favourite authors.

Madame Bovary!

I did La Symphonie Pastorale ( Andre Gide) many moons ago and as a group of teenage girls we loved- great love story with a twist.
We also did L'Etranger, Camus which I loved but was not generally popular.

My DD has just done Mauriac's "Thérèse Desqueyroux" which she enjoyed- A2 exam in a couple of weeks!

How about Alain Fournier, Le Grand Meaulnes or Zola, Germinale?

Thanks, everyone! schoolchuffeur, I did Thérèse Desqueyroux for my A level and enjoyed it. I'm tempted now by Camus or Madame Bovary.

I thought Madame B was over-rated.
