I teach secondary drama. Have been at it for 15 years. Today, a TIE group came to my school to do a performance about online safety to Year 9. One of the actors is someone I taught in my first school. He told the kids afterwards that they are lucky to have such a fantastic drama teacher [sob]

I felt very proud and also very old. How on earth can he be a 27 year old man with a beard?

I've just returned from maternity leave 2 weeks ago and taken over new classes I've never met before. I had a couple of horrid days over the last week but today, a year 11 girl came to see me at lunch to ask me what she'd need to become an English teacher. So we chatted for a bit and I asked her, "Who inspired you? It can't have been me, you've only known me for two weeks."

She said, to my great surprise, that it was me, because she found she was "really getting into the lessons," and enjoying it.

it will be AMAzing in just under 2 weeks ...

It is amazing how much a lovely comment from a current or ex-pupil can help fly your confidence.

It doesn't happen every day (well, not for me anyway) but every now and then you will get a reminder why you chose to teach.

There may be other professions that will give that reward, but I can't think of many.

I had a really shitty week last week with all sorts of friendship and bullying issues suddenly appearing in my class. With great support from my Head and my Mentor I hoped that I had dealt with it all as best I could.

Monday afternoon one of the parents asked to speak to me again and my heart sank... she said Thank You for doing what I had and that her child had been so much happier over the weekend and my and the school's efforts had all been very much appreciated.

One of the little girlies in year 4 in my school orchestra and choir threw her arms round me at a practise this lunch time and said " I love music! You are the best music teacher!" (sniff)
