Details about the funeral didn’t really seem to fit in any of the other threads so started this one

It’s looking like there’s going to be a very large turn out of royals at Harald’s funeral on Wednesday.

Prince William will be representing Charles III
Princess Anne will also attend - she is a godmother to Haakon.

The King & Queen of Sweden (he is one of haakon’s godparents)
Crown Princess Victoria & Prince Daniel (Harald was Victorias godparent)
Prince Carl-Philip & Princess Sofia
Princess Madeleine & Chris O’Neilk
Princess Cristina & Tord Magnusson

King Willem-Alexander & Queen Maxima
Princess Beatrix
Princess Amalia, The Princess of Orange

King Philippe & Queen Mathilde

King Frederik and Queen Mary
Queen Margarethe (also one of Haakon’s godparents)
Crown Prince Christian
Princess Benedikte

Crown Prince Fumihito & Crown Princess Kiko

Grand Duke Guillaume & Grand Duchess Stephanie
Grand Duke Henri

King Felipe & Queen Letizia
Queen Sofia

Prince Albert of Monaco

A big turn out from some of the royal houses, not unexpected, from the ones closest to the Norwegian families

I think I just saw a number of the Swedish royals walking in the procession. Certainly Daniel and Carl-Philip, but I think maybe Victoria as well.

How lovely

Lots of the other royals are walking in the procession.

All of the Swedish royals except the Queen.
King Abdullah
Prince Albert of Monaco
King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima & Princess Amalia
King Philippe & Queen Mathilde
King Felipe & Queen Letitzia
Crown Prince Christian (I think Frederik and Mary are there but haven’t completely seen them to be sure)

Did I just spot William or did my eyes deceive me?

I think one of the programmes said that all of the countries Norway have diplomatic ties with would be represented

I think pretty much all of the foreign royals attending who are able to walk the distance are in the procession.

It’s quite an old fashioned way to do it, but how lovely!

I did read that Sweden were helping out with security.

I’m glad to see that Queen Sonja is being treated as the lead mourner.

i know it’s protocol and all, but seeing Martha-Louise behind Ingrid-Alexander and Sverre-Magnus doesn’t seem right. I think she and her husband should be in the front row with her mother and brother and they in the grandchildren row.

I agree. It's funny how in some ways the Norwegians seem very keen to keep titles etc. to a minimum, but their protocol is so rigid they can't give Martha Louise precedence one final time as the King's daughter. Our RF didn't change anything until after the Queen's funeral.

JustAnotherWhinger · 09/09/2026 12:13

Very much so @KatherineParr

I’m glad her husband is well enough to be there. For all the drama around him she should at least have her person there to support her.

I also very much hope M-L’s daughters chose not to walk in the procession. It would be horrendously cruel if it was decided that Marius couldn’t walk (because of the backlash from Josh volcemenr in moving the coffin) therefore only IA and SM could walk with their father and Aunt.

I noticed Marius is not there .
Did something happen after the coffin removal ?
Are the 3 granddaughters there at all ?

Marius is there. He’s sat next to Martha-Louise’s three daughters in the row she and her husband joined. He’s directly behind Sverre-Magnus

Crown princess Victoria spoke well I thought (Danish is my first language so I understood her)

I dont mind Martha-Louise being shifted in the protocol and I think she would be ok about it too. They grow up with that protocol so know it. I do agree it is a good thing her husband can attend.

King Frederick and Queen Mary are directly oposite King Haakon across from the coffin. Couldn't see who were next to them

bizzey · 09/09/2026 12:58

Oh yes .I have just spotted him now.
That' Abide with me' was beautiful.

Enko · 09/09/2026 12:59

I get the feeling Haakon is close to tears he is starring straight ahead without blinking.

This is my favourite hymn. Dejlig er jorden (wonderful is the earth) we sang it at my wedding.

PrincessofWills · 09/09/2026 13:02

I'm currently in Copenhagen and all the flags are at half-mast.

I think it’s Carl-Gustav and Silvia, and King Abdullah and Rania.
