On the face of it (& I have read the article once so reserve the right to change my mind , be persuaded by those more knowledgeable than me or by other arguments ) this looks like a good thing - or maybe a good start. I'm sure W can manage nicely with the income from 80% of. £1bn Duchy 😊

I don't think this excuses him from not being transparent about finances , but am I being naive to think this is edging towards a good thing? I know there is an argument the Duchy is ill-gotten gains he shouldn't have in the first place. I'm quite pleased to see affordable housing in London referred to , which having a DS who lives in London , I'm very aware of. That's obviously personal to me though.

Anyway - for what it's worth - here's the article

"They are not obliged..."

Convenient. They are not obliged to do anything are they? But sometimes they should look at how the general public view their actions, or should I say non actions.
If only just once they would take the bull by the horns and agree to do a clear up for the greater good of the country. But no. They hide behind the law I hardly think a gesture like that would become a political issue....

You don't think the Duchy clearing a dump that the local government haven't cleared for 2 years, and the Environment Agency haven't yet cleared despite central government agreeing to do so, would become political?

Decacaffeinatednow · 23/06/2026 09:52

Well when the weight of public opprobrium finally got too much even for the teflon clad Windors to withstand, they finally stripped the former Prince Andrew of his title. You can hardly get more political than that.

jeffgoldblum · 23/06/2026 10:26

Does anyone really believe that Andrew was stripped of his titles and privileges because Ralph from Wigan shouted at the king?? 😬 , it wasn’t something that could have happened without time and planning! 🤷‍♀️

Decacaffeinatednow · 23/06/2026 10:57

@jeffgoldblum
They knew that they could not longer collude, condone and sweep the behaviour under the carpet and hope it would go away. So Ralph from Wigan and all the other Ralphs certainly played their part. If they hadn't he would still be in Royal Lodge and dressing up in curtains at state events.

I believe it was when the government publicly revealed that he had leaked sensitive government information, that was the last blow!

Decacaffeinatednow · 23/06/2026 11:17

Yes - thank god for the government finally finding a bit of bottle when it comes to the RF.

Indeed! , although I believe it had less to do with rf and more ass covering for themselves!
we know the government doesn’t classify crimes against women and girls as a priority!

Totally agree. And if only the RF could find it within themselves to withdraw and apologise for the scurrilous statement issued on behalf of AMW in Nov 19, smearing Virginia Guiffre, they might redeem themselves in some tiny fashion.

bluegreygreen · 23/06/2026 15:31

Which we all know the King can't do, as it has since February been an active police case; if it goes to court anything he says from then could be used by either side as prejudicing the case.

They will not say anything more than the Queen said, very clearly, in her speech on International Women's Day in March.

CathyorClaire · 23/06/2026 20:46

Of course the Duchy is set up that any money made from selling something has to be invested but any surplus (profits) goes to William. Like any business it won't be a loss maker. Who would deliberately invest to reduce their profits?

Probably also worth mulling over whether W would deliberately reduce the obscene profits which will eventually land in George's pockets.

Can't see it myself.

CathyorClaire · 23/06/2026 20:52

they are not obliged to accept an inheritance that comes with issues like this.

Happy enough though to accept decades worth of unproblematic inheritances of a cumulative value that would far exceed the costs of cleaning up this outlier.

I think the Epstein files dump was the first concrete revelation we had that MW had leaked like a sieve.

While the Mandy files corroborated it it's truly outrageous the first we learned of it was from a third party source outside the UK.

Mark my words @CathyorClaire! The government knew, the secret service knew! 😡

I think they did but we're still left to wonder why apparently they lay supine and let him get on with it.

We're yet to learn who lay behind any inaction / cover-up and why which is why the UK TE files need to be unsealed now.

simpsonthecat · 25/06/2026 22:43

the refurbishments come to an end, the overall level of the grant will fall from £137.9m to £99.9m in 2027-28. But the new figure will be almost double the core grant of £51.8m in 2024-25, and above the core grant of £72.1m in 2025-26.

I need to see this for real

He was not stripped of his titles though - that would require an act of Parliament.

He agreed to stop using them.

jeffgoldblum · 25/06/2026 23:22

I am sure the weekly meeting with the queen had rather a lot to do with it,

Well, as you said "... Andrew was stripped of his titles and privileges..." I thought I should point out that he has not.

Accuracy I suppose?
