Am I the only one who doesn't see much resemblance between Beatrice and Queen Victoria? (Pictures attached)

I've often seen people note Beatrice's resemblance to Queen Victoria as an example of genes skipping generations. Now, you can definitely see Philip's looks I'm William & Harry imo, and there are other examples.

But I just don't see Beatrice as one of them. Maybe this is because I don't like Beatrice and I do like Queen Victoria? But I've tried hard to see a resemblance and I genuinely don't see much of one.

What do others think?

It's interesting: I often see comments saying the royals in general look Hanoverian but imo it's overstated. This ties into how the extent to which they are 'inbred' is overstated.
Yes, Victoria & Albert were first cousins, but Edward & Alexandra were only distantly related, George V & Mary were second cousins once removed, then George VI & Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon were clearly not related at all, & the Queen & Prince Philip only distantly (third cousins and also second cousins once removed). That's not really that much inbreeding.

Just to add to this, the earlier Hanoverians George III and George II did not marry close relatives (though George I was very unhappily married to his first cousin Sophia ☹️).

I'm a Republican but imo the inbreeding charges are more about unpleasant & irrelevant insults than actual fact.

I think they look very alike. There a definite family resemblance in features that I don’t think anyone else in Beatrice’s close family have. Aren’t genetics interesting, is Victoria her Gggg-gm? It’s a long way back.

How often have you actually met Beatrice to decide you dislike her?

I can see a similarity.

I haven't met Fergie but I dislike her based on my knowledge of her behavior re trading off connections and mixing with Epstein. Ditto for Beatrice, though to a lesser degree.

I'm happy to discuss her behaviour elsewhere, but let's keep this thread to comparing portraits.

Fascinating how some see it but some don't - which features do you think are similar & that Beatrice doesn't get from anyone else?

Victoria is her 4-times great grandmother, they only share about 1-2% of DNA.

You were the one who said you disliked her and therefore veered away from portraits/likeness alone.

As I said, I'm happy to discuss Beatrice's behaviour on any other thread, anyone whi wants to do that can start one, or I can.

It's interesting how different posters have such different responses to the same pics. It's fun to discuss- I look forward to checking tomorrow.

I can definitely see a resemblance. They both have the big eyes and similar shaped face

I saw a picture of Andrew when he was a teenage yesterday. He looks so much like Beatrice.

I think they look very similar, particularly round the eyes, and think that Andrew takes after QV too.

IberianLynx · 08/03/2026 23:19

They have a similar look.

Agree that it’s harsh to fat shame Queen Victoria. I wouldn’t expect someone that had had 9 children to have a perfect figure.

Carla786 · 07/03/2026 03:39

This one is Victoria face-on a bit younger.

Very similar to Beatrice's mouth

Wow- yes! I agree there are some commonalities with Victoria to some extent but the resemblance to both her parents seem strong to me, far stronger than any resemblance to Victoria- which makes sense DNA-wise.

Yes- I mean, as a Queen she had excellent healthcare for the time but the 9 pregnancies were gruelling. And I'm pretty sure (though need to check) that she exercised less during the long midlife mourning period which didn't help .

Definite similarities - predominantly the weak chin and the round eyes.

I can see a clear resemblance to Beatrice here.

Sorry OP, but I do think Beatrice looks a lot like her.

That's still a few hundred genes, though.

And maybe Bea got the face part from QV!

That's OK 🤣 I love discussing portraits/photos & I think it's interesting that people can see them so differently. I will look again later on to see if I see more resemblance.

I do see more with the nose now, I think, though Victoria's seems more hooked.

They’re so similar it’s uncanny. The shape of the face, the jawline and the slightly recessed chin are the spit of each other. They both have narrow noses (though not exactly a match) and their eyes pop somehow, although Victoria’s are less prominent.
