The royal family

As you say quick and easy. I'm predicting that something massive is about to be reported about AMW because I honestly don't believe that the King being heckled by one member of the public was the only trigger to AMW having his titles removed.

I'm with you.

Having to do this is pretty catastrophic from the RF's point of view.

After telling us how difficult it was, and that they didn't want to be seen to waste parliamentary time with something so unimportant...it actually transpires it's pretty simple, and wastes nobody's time at all.

Some of us will remember this the next time one of the RF puts a little toe wrong.

Essentially fired from all royal duties and HRH benefits for gross misconduct & unfit for office.

MrsLeonFarrell · 06/11/2025 18:14

This is a work around to avoid the long formal process which was needed to actually remove his title but keep it extant. Parliament gave it and they needed to remove it that way.

What the King has done is remove the title completely, it no longer exists therefore Andrew can't have it. Much quicker but means that a very old title no longer exists.

Mind you who would have wanted it!

The Letters Patent have removed his HRH and his princedom.

The article isn't about his dukedom, so this isn't a workaround for that.

I misread it.

In that case my answer why it isn't simple is that this is a pretty big precedent to set in a country run by precedent. No wonder it took a while.

It took a while because the King didn't want to do it, and until after the disastrous statement issued by his brother, didn't feel there was a need to do it. He thought Andrew's statement would be enough to quell dissent. And yes it does set an unwelcome (to them) precedent.

The action of carrying it out, however, was, as I said, extremely quick and easy.

It took a while because the King didn’t want to do it. If he could have closed ranks he would have done.

He looks like Beaker … same could be said for Harry!

It's official! Letters Patent Issued regarding Andrew Windsor

Any ideas…I mean, how much lower can he go?

HoppityBun · 06/11/2025 19:13

My only interest is in hoping, without real expectation, that people pronounce “patent” correctly i.e. with a short “a”.

BBC news are reporting he's been invited to Congress to answer questions about his involvement with Epstein.

US congress panel asks Andrew to appear for questioning

The panel, which does not have the power to subpoena Andrew, made the request as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

Middlemarch123 · 06/11/2025 20:54

Said in the Times Charles has said he can keep his Falklands medal. Maybe AMW will hang it round his favourite teddy bear’s neck, that sits on his bed with the other seventy teddies.

Fairgamer · 26/11/2025 22:26

Well too late. Also he will still continue having timers right?

Not2identifying · 26/11/2025 22:32

Interesting. It must be strange for him but absolutely the right decision. Finally.

Is parliament going to do what it needs to do to remove the Dukedom? Will it effectively return to the monarch?

Not2identifying · 26/11/2025 22:33

It seems the one thing left is for Andrew to renounce his place in the succession but I can't think that there's any way to force him to do that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/12/2025 19:17

Sounds to me like something the RF will be very keen to shut down, Mylovelygreendress, and doubtless representations/arrangements will be being made as we write

On the BBC this was also attached to remarks that "in all likelihood" Andrew won't receive compensation for leaving Royal Lodge early - and never mind that they headed the piece with "Andrew won't get any money back" (my underlining)
