The royal family

Why wasn’t any member of the RF present at the women’s rugby World Cup final yesterday?

Honestly, I think it was a disgrace!

And an insult to our female players! And the entire team who worked so hard to get to be champions!

If the England’s men’s team had reached the final of the the World Cup, against a Commonwealth country no less, I bet someone would have turned up!

No doubt the team members will be invited to Windsor at some point but I think it’s a huge mid-step that no member of the RF could actually be bothered to travel to the stadium, sit in the stands, and actually cheer the Red Roses on!

Princess Anne often attends Scottish rugby matches. It would have meant so much to the women there if someone in the RF could have turned out for them. People clocked Mark Carney for Canada and could be seen literally looking around to see who was there for us!

Princess Catherine sent a message of support in advance and I have every sympathy with her if she is not well enough to attend a match, But if that was the case, someone in one of the offices at St James’s palace, to which we all collectively contribute a lot of money, should have clocked this situation and made other suitable plans!

Sorry Catherine and William, you can’t just pick and choose the events you want to attend like Wimbledon and Aston Villa matches!

i thought kate was there?
there was a picture of her wearing a cowboy hat

OhNoNotSusan · 28/09/2025 09:49

who should they have sent?
i expect they sent an official

Needspaceforlego · 28/09/2025 09:55

Actually Google say Mike and Zara were there to represent the RF.

I may be wrong but I don't think anyone royal turned up when England's men beat Australia in the 2003 final.

Catherine sent a photo of herself meeting some of the players on a previous occasion and sent a message of support,

All good but much more was required.

As I say, if she Catherine is not well, then everyone would sympathise and understand if a substitute was sent in her place.

But send someone from the RF fhs! And make a bit of an effort while the women’s England team are giving their all!

I hate to say it because everyone will howl in protest, but Harry and Meghan would have been perfect for the job!

Oh well if that’s the case I apologise but were they there in an official capacity because the England VIP box looked pretty empty except for a few nameless officials.

I didn’t think that Zara and Mike were working royals?

There was nothing to stop them going yesterday and supporting the team(s) if that was something they wanted to do.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 28/09/2025 10:06

William and/or Kate should have been there.

OhNoNotSusan · 28/09/2025 10:06

i suppose they are slimmed down

Do you think the Royal family "choose" their engagement do you think the princess of Wales can just nip to the rugby on a Saturday afternoon like a regular fan ?

Zara and Mike Tindell were there respresenting the royal family as support, are they not important enough for you?

Coffeeishot · 28/09/2025 10:08

Harry and Meghan 😂 I see you are just here with your big stirry stick!

InterestPiqued · 28/09/2025 10:10

I agree, as patron, Kate should’ve been there or given an excuse at to why she wasn’t.

Zara and Mike weren’t representing the RF.

TeenLifeMum · 28/09/2025 10:11

Hmmm I agree op and Mike and Zara aren’t working royals so not an equal representation to the men’s rugby final imo. (Although I like Mike and Zara). But then I found it odd that at the women’s football William took his daughter but not the boys, like only a girl would be interested.

They were there in a Royal capacity.
The full-time working Royals equates to Charles, Camilla and Ann all getting old
Edward and Sophie doing DoE stuff and others
William and Kate, recovering from treatment and have 3 kids to consider.

The cousins Zara, Bea and Euganie have all done some stuff including the garden parties.

H&M want the glam stuff but not the everyday stuff.

Well I stand corrected but pardon me for having normal expectations of the RF to do what they are funded to do!

He should have been there! That’s a disgrace too!

Prince William was slammed for not travelling to Australia and supporting the Lionesses as well I remember. Hadn’t Queen Letitia of Spain and Leonara made the effort to attend and support their team?

Who is managing the Palace’s PR? This would have been an easy win for them! Or are they above such things?

I don’t think Mike and Zara were there in an official capacity or they would have been captured in the coverage.

She said she couldn't make it but wished them well, perhaps she had a prior engagement or maybe she wasn't well we don't actually have the right to know what she is doing unless it is an official engagement,

A few weeks ago they both were there in person supporting the English and Welsh teams. The Princess of Wales spent some time with the English team. There are plenty of photos and videos if you want to check.

Given that, I'm not very surprised that they felt good wishes from the PPoW and the King were sufficient.

Prince WIlliam is in Balmoral with the King this week.

You have no idea why he took his daughter to a women's sport ?

I have no idea why his sons didn’t go with their sister to support women’s sport. Both sexes can enjoy sport regardless of the sex playing it.

Well I hope they enjoyed their venison cutlets in peace! Let’s not worry about the real world outside eh?

And it’s not as if they don’t have helicopters at their disposal.

Frankly, I suspect they have more real world stuff than rugby to discuss this week.

CurlewKate · 28/09/2025 10:20

I do think it’s a shame that the Prince of Wales wasn’t there.

ShesTheAlbatross · 28/09/2025 10:20

Zara and Mike were not there in a royal capacity. His congratulations tweet said “thanks for howden’s insurance for having us”
