Princess Beatrice writing about her birth story

Interesting article, well written. I liked how she is aware of her privilege and wants to use her experiences to help others in the same situation. Royal patronage seem to work best with personal interest or experience.

I fully agree. It is well-written, humble, meaningful, and immediately raises the profile of the research organisation. Thank you for the link!

That’s a good article. Very clear about women’s health, the history of relative neglect, and connecting her personal story to the wider issues without failing to acknowledge how lucky she is compared to other women (while also conscious that no amount of privilege can keep you perfectly safe). It makes me like her more.

And with Mrs Alice as well!

I hadn't heard of Mrs Alice before this.

She was mentioned on another thread recently, the one that moved onto cabbage bowls.

Missed that one too. Is that bowls of cabbage or bowls made from cabbage?!

Best thread diversion ever - worth reading. I was sad I have no access to the cabbage bowl options here in the US.

Yeah. Liz Jones. I know 🙄

But. While I'm not sure about the parallels she's drawing with Rachel who's all about lining her own pockets she has some pretty salient points to make about the cost of the fund-raising tat (the sold out £80 - £80! storks are the stuff of nightmares) and royal patronages and charity 'work' in general.

It'll be interesting to see where Borne as opposed to schmoozing round the Middle East actually places on Bea's list of priorities.

That's a mean spirited article, but then it is Liz Jones. The storks are expensive but I doubt Beatrice is aiming for people like me with her collection and hopefully the more expensive the item the more is donated to charity.

I'm not going to bring Megan into the thread because - derail city!

I do not agree with her that Catherine would have done better to release details of her cancer diagnosis. Privacy about health matters should be allowed in anyone, regardless of status. I also think there is a difference between Beatrice speaking about a single health problem that is now finished and cancer which can be speculated about forevermore.

I am withholding judgement on Homewards. It is supposed to be a five year project so I'm happy to give it five years and see what happens. I did hear some experts on radio 4 being very positive about the concept when it was launched, let's see what happens.

But it's Liz Jones, I'm not sure she is the best person to make points because I so dislike her that it pains me to even agree slightly! She may have sold her life but I don't think others need to do the same.

Beatrice seems to get involved with causes of which she has personal experience, rather like Camilla, which is reasonable, and as pp noted, she acknowledged that she had the benefit of the best medical expertise that could be had. It's a fair article and I wish her well with fundraising.

That's true, but I'm not sure she is right about this.
