Al Qaida calling for terrorist attack on Prince Harry

This is very disturbing and currently breaking news in Germany. Have not seen it reported anywhere else so here's the article:
https://www.focus.de/politik/ausland/erkenntnisse-des-bka-focus-online-exklusiv-islamisten-planen-anschlag-auf-prinz-harry_id_257085859.html

It's an exclusive investigation by the reputable German media portal Focus. You many need to auto-translate the articles for details. It basically states that Al Qaida posted messages last week that explicitly called for attacks on the West, particularly the USA and naming Prince Harry as a target. The motive is presumably perceived revenge for the number of Afghani kills he disclosed in his book. The case is being closely followed and analysed by the German criminal police (BKA).

The rest of the article is more about Hamas and the overall growing climate of unrest between terror groups and state governments. It also mentions the growing concern for Lone Wolf operators who are not usually affiliated with a large, planned attack but decide to work on their own.

I still wonder why on earth he included that information in his book in the first place.

I can't imagine the stress he will be under. God love him.

Missing the point of the thread but Prince Harry looks incredibly like King Charles in that photo.

On topic, I really like PH but he did a hugely stupid thing speaking about taking people’s lives in the way he did.

Soldiers are trained to take people’s lives, it is a prerequisite of becoming a soldier that you are willing to take life for your country but it is such a horrible thing and dehumanising thing to do, killing someone, and PH should never, ever have spoken about taking valuable human lives in the manner he did in his book. It was literally my own criticism of him in what he wrote at the time.

EdgarsTale · 02/12/2023 22:44

Unbelievable that he was so cocky in sharing his kill number. It was such a stupid thing to do.

caringcarer · 02/12/2023 22:54

I always thought bragging about his killings in Afghanistan would make himself, Meghan and his kids targets. He's so stupid. I hope he had good security.

mpsw · 02/12/2023 22:56

The way he spoke in 2013 about his experiences covered much the same ground and attracted positive comments. I think he was incredibly ill-advised to add the extra information more recently (number, chess pieces)

I don't read German, so can't really get the finer points of the link.

But Al Qaeda have been making these threats towards Harry from 2010 onwards. I'm not sure that the latest interview, badly judged though it was, has materially changed the threat assessment.

It is possible that Al Qaeda is rebuilding its international attack capability. Their history has shown a focus on large terror attacks, rather than individual assassinations (outside Afghanistan) but they do urge "lone wolf" attacks. But I'm not sure how well an individually (probably online) radicalised recruit would get alongside a high value target. Does the article go in to any of that?

coxesorangepippin · 02/12/2023 22:57

Honestly what else does he expect

If anyone, surely he should know better??

mpsw · 02/12/2023 23:05

Ah - I've found the "translate" button!

This article hangs its headline on Harry, but I don't think that's a reflection of the two separate recent statements by Al Qaeda and ISIS, who are making these statements to support Hamas. In particular calling on (possibly self radicalised / internet groomed) individuals to attack military and Jewish targets (recalls for example truck attack on Christmas market)

And the German authorities appear to be saying that they have generally raised their threat alert

British government made a similar warning back in July

mafsafanuk · 02/12/2023 23:06

What an idiot thing to do putting his family in danger.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 02/12/2023 23:10

I suspect he did it because of the amount of people who will have assumed he was pampered and protected during his army service, to try and show them (whoever them were) he was really a hardman.

Bloody stupid, but I doubt anyone will get near enough to him to do anything.

pilates · 03/12/2023 08:07

If I was Meghan I would’ve been fuming with that comment putting his family at risk like that.

Edited

That was my first thought too, really looks like him

On the threat it wasn’t a good idea

MrsHarrisAParis · 03/12/2023 19:00

If you think it's a serious threat then why on earth would you amplify the message? Very irresponsible of the German media and tbh of you OP.
Although this was covered on the release of Harry's book so it's odd they are publicising it again now by trying to link it to Israel/Palestine. It seems like a way to continue dehumanising Palestinians by implying all Muslims are terrorists, and fudging (deliberately so) that not all Palestinians are Muslims. And not everyone criticising Israel's actions in Palestine are Muslims either.

Just in time for the RAVEC hearing in the High Court …
