Police officer 'sent racist messages about the Duchess of Sussex to work WhatsApp group'

I think this is maybe the 5th(?) recent investigation into various police who have been caught in sending racist messages about Meghan, and other vile messages about members of the BRF.

This makes me wonder why in the hell Harry would want these people anywhere near his wife and children if they were to visit the UK

"The Duchess, who has been a frequent target of vitriolic and often racially tinged criticism, is now reportedly facing racist posts from a UK Police WhatsApp group. The information, made public by Sky News, includes despicable racist and misogynistic comments about Markle, Queen Elizabeth II, and other members of the Royal Family.

The report alleges that the messages were shared by an officer whose ex-wife submitted screenshots of the conversations to West Yorkshire Police. Describing the messages as 'racist and vile,' she expressed deep concern over the apparent amusement the officers derived from the misogynistic content. This incident casts a disconcerting shadow on the integrity of those who are duty-bound to serve without bias."

Fairly tame given some other investigations into other things sent between police officers via WhatsApp. I doubt anything will come from it, slap on the wrist for the officers

As the ex wife pointed out, those police officers sending racist messages and having a good old laugh are out there ‘policing’ all people. How could they be trusted to police fairly and without bias against people of colour and also women of any colour?

This isn’t tame. Or it’s only tame if we treat it as such. It’s disgraceful and damned if I’d want to have to call those police for anything.

This happens in my country too. I’m aware. It’s always serious. And it may well be widespread in the policing community.

meercat23 · 01/11/2023 10:58

I think all of the evidence that comes to public attention is that such attitudes are widespread. Within some police forces attitudes and behaviour to people of colour and to women are beyond deplorable. That such messages were exchanged unfortunately doesn't surprise me at all

I agree with the posters above but part of the issue is that the police swear allegiance to Charles, not the people .

We are often told by royalists that all the other European monarchies are similar to the UK .
They are not .

Other European monarchies swear allegiance to the constitution and the people . I think the grandfather of the Norwegian king asked the people 1, if they wanted a ‘king’ and 2 if they wanted him as king ! That was 100 years ago !

Can the public be asked in the UK if we are happy to continue as we are ? Of course not - the Windsors won’t like the answer .

NONE of the European monarchies have a coronation - only the UK persists with that nonsense . Yes it does mean that Charles comes first , god has appointed him and the country is given to him. Ridiculous .

Yes I know the UK has no written constitution but what we have is ‘not worth the paper it is not written on’ as Norman Baker puts it .

We do not have a mature democracy.

What has all this got to do with racism in the UK ? I don’t believe the average uk citizen is racist . But the entrenched class system and unaccountable power which the Windsors exemplify and reinforce is an inherently racist idea . I don’t mean skin colour before that is thrown at me . I mean setting individuals above others based on accident of birth .

I do believe that the Windsors are racist . They were doubly outraged because Meghan unfortunately showed them
up when she spoke so naturally and eloquently on stage with them all. Look up the video - but it’s painful to watch

The union flag plastic hat brigade are just off in cloud cuckoo land singing ‘Britannia rules the waves ‘ like it was the mid 18 century . Pitiful .
The country needs to grow up and it starts with dealing with the fact that we need reform and if we keep Charles etc they are cut down to size , not placed above citizens and salaried

West Yorkshire police, eh? Well done the wife for reporting it. I doubt it will make a difference though, nothing seems to change no matter how serious the incident. Like a pp says most people in the UK are decent but it's been obvious for a while the police is rotten. The idea that the rot stems from the fact that all the power comes from the monarch and not the people is intriguing.

Fairly tame? A clear pattern of racist behaviour some of it targeted towards Meghan Markle across different police forces and you are dismissive of it? Tip of the iceberg.

Not really surprised here, given previous attempts to minimise racism directed against Meghan Markle or the orchestrated pile ons on those who've attempted to expose it.

@MrsMaxDeWinter wasn't wrong in her assessment.

A thread on openly targeted racism against MM generates 5 responses. Many only contribute when there is an opportunity to be nasty about Meghan. Now if abusive behaviour was targeted at Kate by any group in authority there would be uproar.

queentim · 07/11/2023 13:06

Exactly. On any given day a thread about Meghan would fill up in a heartbeat

yes you're right. Theres not much interest in general here lately, but the thread on Scobie's book has more comments than this. Racism is minimised or ignored.

Thankfully there was no 'slap on the wrist', the officer has been dismissed without notice. As any officer should be.

I just find it so strange people laugh or mock them for being scared enough to leave the country, the police who are meant to be protecting them have officers in more than one area exchanging racist messages about her. I would be terrified in her position and completely ashamed, embarrassed and horrified in Harry's.

selfselfiequeen · 07/11/2023 17:58

And they say the UK isn't racist. Pffft

ALittleTeawithmilk · 07/11/2023 23:04

@Iwantcakeeveryday Meghan was absolutely terrified. In the documentary she speaks about not being able to sleep, and panicking, and repeatedly checking that her children were safe while they slept in their own rooms in their own home. So easy to understand her fears now, with the repeated exposure of racist text messages about her between members of the police force.
