It was wonderful, loved the comment about the cutlery.

I never liked Princess Anne, but really warming to her from this and her last interview, and since I realised (very recently) that she was subject to a kidnapping attempt and how she handled it, amazing.

Loved how easy they all were together, Kate seemed so much more relaxed, I think she has eased off on the plummy accent. William came across as really engaging and with a great sense of humour.

The RF need to do more of this.

Ah, but when you remove the (actual) Royals and are just left with the insufferable James Haskell, will the masses actually stay? (I really cannot stand the man, sorry)

ThePoshUns · 09/09/2023 20:15

Just watching now, really engaging

Mylovelygreendress · 09/09/2023 20:18

It’s always a good podcast but this one is brilliant ! Princess Anne is such a star !

Maireas · 09/09/2023 20:19

You should read about the kidnapping attempt, @themessygarden - a would be kidnapper, armed with a gun, told Anne to get into his car. Her retort? "Not bloody likely!" Incredible story.

themessygarden · 09/09/2023 20:21

I am prepared o admit that I only know of Mike Tindall, no clue who the other two are, I saw the trailer on the Daily Mail (horror of horrors), so checked it out and really enjoyed it.

Maireas, I only recently learned of this, and actually made a post on here about it, it really is the stuff of legends.

What a character. No self pity. I like that.

AmandaHoldensLips · 09/09/2023 20:25

How the other half live, eh? Them being all relaxed and "normal" while talking about the kinds of childhoods and choices that most cannot imagine.

"It's all about finding the right pony!"
"Oh yes, team spots, lacrosse / tennis / wif-waf."
"When I was at school.... blah blah..."

I'm totally ambivalent towards the RF but talk about tone deaf....

Totally, in the podcast she is so self depracating, I never thought I would say that I would love Princess Anne, but she needs more airtime !

I really started liking Princess Anne when she was an ambassador for a children's charity (maybe or it might have been the WWF) and she was with Val Singleton of Blue Peter. She was just so normal.

This was in the mid 70s I think (and I was maybe about 10).

Actually I thought it made her more human, the hassle of supporting your kids with their pastimes or hobbies, be it taking them to scouts or soccer and having to help out, or taking them to gymkhana's or whatever it is called. Different level for sure, but same/same hassle and parent commitment.

Save The Children, she's been working with them since 1970. Always well informed, always involved. Does her homework.

TheUsualChaos · 09/09/2023 20:31

They can't help the life they were born into. I genuinely don't think Princess Anne takes it for granted compared to a lot of them.

LakeTiticaca · 09/09/2023 20:33

Princess Ann has bigger balls than most men.
Just ask the fools who tried to kidnap her 😉

BackToOklahoma · 09/09/2023 20:34

I don’t like Anne at all. That interview she did with the, I think, Canadian interviewer showed her for what she is. Horrible woman.

Totally agree. I watched an episode of rich house, poor house recently where the child from the poorer family got a chance to have riding lessons and her mum just looked so sad as she said it just wasn’t a realistic option for them. Then this bunch sit around making it sound like these things are accessible for everyone. Clueless.

Brilliant 😂

She really could teach the next generation of the RF a thing or two. What a legend to have as a mother and grandmother. I hope the grandkids, and nieces and nephews, get to hear the full story of how their brave grandmother handled a kidnapper with a gun who shot her bodyguard and driver.

Save The Children, she's been working with them since 1970. Always well informed, always involved. Does her homework.

In 1990, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, by President Kaunda of Zambia, for her work in Africa with Save the Children.

IIRC, she once said that she spent the at least the first ten years just doing what they wanted her to do, whilst really learning on every visit and meeting. And only then did she feel able to start to put forwards ideas, and only some time after that really begin to help shape policy/direction.

She doesn't usually talk about her role - and the press don't cover her activities that much, so it tends to go unnoticed in this country.

I remember it clearly . Now that really was a near catastrophic car chase !!

Novella4 · 09/09/2023 20:45

Anne is the same woman who haughtily dismissed any mention of the ‘royals’ role in slavery .

They must be worried - this more transparent PR . People aren’t fooled .
