And the importance of portraiture.
I felt quite sad reading this

National Portrait Gallery won’t show William and Harry painting

Strange they don’t say why.

Whenharrymetsmelly · 03/06/2023 04:06

Well I guess it has become irrelevant now, but yes I agree it is very sad. I always think this whole situation is a sad one

Maireas · 03/06/2023 07:41

I remember that picture. It's nice and captures a lovely look.
All such a shame.

polkadotdalmation · 03/06/2023 09:26

So sad to see and hear how different they were at that time, and compare it to now.

Iyiyiiii · 03/06/2023 09:28

It depicts the Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex in happier times, long before they fell out and Harry left the country to live a new life with his family in California. Both lieutenants in the Household Cavalry at the time, they are shown wearing the full mess uniform of the Blues and Royals.

The gallery will not say why the picture has not been included in the hang for the official opening, but both the gallery and Kensington Palace say that the decision was not at the request of the palace.

sashagabadon · 03/06/2023 17:02

That is actually a great painting, captures them both well. I think it should stay on display.

BalloonSlayer · 03/06/2023 19:51

Maybe someone has asked to hang it in their palace house.

ThePoshUns · 03/06/2023 20:30

I think it should be on display. It depicts a moment in history.

It's been on tour previously.

Maybe it's due to tour again on the worldwide privacy bill

Harry really has a thing about Williams baldness.

i wonder if having more hair makes him feel superior in some way?

seen from behind, Harry has typical male pattern balding.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/06/2023 15:08

With over 250,000 portraits in our collection, we are only able to display a small percentage within our building

I think that says it all. Its nothing to do with the fallout or anything. It may resurface in twenty years time once other quality pictures have been shown but I guess it depends on what's hiding in that 250,000

However the artist really has captured an easygoing and relaxed moment in time so hopefully it will be part of another tour.

He really does.

His own baldness from behind/the top is very pronounced.

And his comment about ‘not being as ginger’ as in the portrait, okay, sure Harry 👍
I actually think he’s more ginger in real life.

(Not that there’s anything wrong with being ginger, but you can see he has a thing about it)

What a load of nonsense. The royals will all be laughing that mammies on mumsnet know how harry feels about Williams baldness. Grin

Well, we’re only going by what he’s said.

And I doubt the royals will ‘all be laughing’.
Or do you imagine they sit there together, crouched over Charles phone, reading out RF threads ‘all laughing’ 😂

We do know how Harry feel about Williams baldness, because Harry has spoken about it in that article and in his book.

and it’s more than a bit of an own goal, given his own balding pate. Which the royals might very well snigger at, given his hypocrisy. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. Or nearly happened. Or might have happened. Or were nearly catastrophic - only they weren’t.

continentallentil · 04/06/2023 23:13

I don’t think it was ever on permanent display anyway.
