If Prince Harry had been in fact Princess Harriet

I honestly don’t think there would have been the same issues if Harry had been the younger sister as opposed to the second son. Thoughts?

Girls can whinge just as much as boys so there would probably have been no difference.

maximist · 05/04/2023 16:37

He'd probably have followed in the footsteps of his Great-Aunt Margaret....

custardbear · 05/04/2023 16:38

Depends if she had the same entitled attitude, wasn't very bright and was being used as a puppet by whatever partner they happened to be chosen by who had an agenda they were using her for.

Serenster · 05/04/2023 16:48

Princess Martha Louise of Norway has caused quite a few constitutional issues there, with having to agree to give up her HRH title and then give up patronages and acting in any official role given controversies over her using her title for commercial gain, and over the views she publicly espouses (and the views of her fiancé also). There have been some terse interviews given publicly too.

So it quite possibly would have played out similarly.

TrashyPanda · 05/04/2023 23:24

I’m going to guess she wouldn’t have boasted about losing her virginity behind the pub with an “older” man.

dittbtdity · 05/04/2023 23:43

Probably wouldn't have boasted about her exploits in war either.

LeavesOnTrees · 05/04/2023 23:45

It would have been worse for her as Diana's daughter.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/04/2023 23:47

She would have been called Elizabeth. Charles worshipped his Gran.

Cokefans · 05/04/2023 23:56

Not much difference - Harry lost his balls in 2016

Do you think her blue fanny would have been shown on South Park? To be fair she'd probably talked about it and shown it to everyone by then so maybe it wouldn't have been that big a thing.

😹
Although they're not lost, MM has them safely tucked away

It would have been worse for her as Diana's daughter.

I would agree with this. Especially if she looked like Charles the way Harry does.

It would have been much worse.

JenniferBarkley · 06/04/2023 09:32

I think Harriet would've had an awful time - look at how the press treats women, and then adding the Diana's daughter thing on top. I suspect it would have approached unbearable.

sashagabadon · 06/04/2023 13:11

I agree it would have been better mainly because male spouses get a much less harder time. Two female spouses ( Catherine and Meghan) are a dream for tabloids to set against each other. That would not be the case for one female / one male spouse.

Can you imagine being Diana's daughter, and being short and fat :(

jeanne16 · 06/04/2023 13:25

Princess Margaret caused issues as the 2nd child so I’m not sure it would have been any better.

Theunamedcat · 06/04/2023 13:28

It would have been worse the drama surrounding the Queen of hearts daughter would be never ending news stories

SheilaFentiman · 06/04/2023 19:37

Princess Harriet would have been set against William’s wife, just the same. The press can’t resist.

7Worfs · 06/04/2023 19:43

Henrietta would have had a unique title (Princess Royal) and more prominence, I think.

TiedUpWithABlackVelvetBand · 06/04/2023 19:45

Um, hard disagree.

Princess Margaret is the original ‘spare’.

TiedUpWithABlackVelvetBand · 06/04/2023 19:46

And yes, she’d have been Henriette, not Harriet.

How brushed up on the Royals are you, OP?

Um, hard disagree.

I'd argue her father was the ultimate spare - he actually became king.

A fictitious Princess Henriette would have been happier not to compete with William. The dog bowl skit would not have occurred and her sexual antics she would not have shared. Women are not as boastful as men, genuinely.

Her relationship with her father would have remained that of an only daughter - perhps with artistic or plant shared interests.
She would have found her safe and happy place in the arty circles of the UK and very happily been the loved Aunt of William's children and secure doing her own thing - a bit like Princess Eugenie and Zara Phillips. The press would have given her more space/kindness - as Diana's daughter (as hard as that would have been to live up to) and she would not have gone to war.
I can't see Princess Henriette flying the coup with an American television actor. Though I could see a small chance of Henriette, if a natural beauty, being offered modelling or promotion work like her Spencer cousins, though settling on promoting the best of British. She could also have developed into a successful sportswoman - with determination of Charles, and connections of Aunt Anne.

Whenharrymetsmelly · 07/04/2023 06:42

Yes I think you're right .... although I do think if people liked MM there would not have been any issues, and they all would have lived happily ever after

As I read this I almost felt sad, until I got to the living up to Diana bit. That would have been impossible, Princess Henriette would've been even more of a wreck! Poor Harry/Harriet was doomed either way
