Andrew and the Order of The Garter

Reports are that Andrew is in a snit about not being allowed to play dress-up once again:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/king-could-ban-furious-prince-29398902

Apparently the Order of The Garter is only behind a Victoria Cross or a George Cross in terms of prestige which is a travesty in itself but surely allowing him to cling on to such an exclusive gong is another?

Firstly, It's not dress-up for them. Many of them have very little else. It's real life.
Although well informed, I'm not an expert. Maybe it's about his place in the proceedings? If he's a KG, will he have a prominent role which Charles would like to decrease?
That said, if PA had to swear full allegiance to Charles as king, would that be a bad thing? Then he'd be conclusively on the hook to do anything King Charles ordered.

*It's not dress-up for them. Many of them have very little else. It's real life.

So worrying about which sweeping magic cloak or unearned military bling to wear is 'real life'?

OK.

Maybe it's about his place in the proceedings?

What place do you think a disgraced and proven friend of a duo of convicted sex offenders and stealth featherer of his own nest at the nation's expense could validly have in proceedings?

"Unearned military bling"

Andrew served in a war zone

Justmuddlingalong · 08/03/2023 21:07

It'll be to do with his health. God forbid he overheated in velvet and took ill, during proceedings.
Given his inability to sweat.

CathyorClaire · 08/03/2023 21:07

Andrew served in a war zone

And was due to be upgraded to Admiral on his 60th just because.

Lots of people served in war zones and are now left homeless or with mental health issues, but he deserves to be the one dressed in finery?

tarheelbaby · 08/03/2023 21:40

Steady on, y'all... If you read carefully, I never said whether or not I supported his garter regalia (the magic cloak). But the RF must believe in the magic, even if others don't.
My point was
If he's actively KG wearing the cloak, he might be too close to the front of the queue for most folks, including KC and PW and many of your good selves.
So King Charles as commander in chief and sovereign lord, ordering him not to wear his 'magic cloak' would relegate him to wearing a morning suit and sitting in the 'cheap' seats.

HereComesMaleficent · 08/03/2023 21:49

For a modern, simmed down coronation, I think they'd all look smarter and more modern in military uniforms, suits and such.

No need for velvet robes, feathers, coronets and silk stockings on them all.

Just shove Charles in a uniform, with a robe and crown, Camilla can wear a posh frock a robe and a crown.

Pictures will look grand. I mean at a push maybe some sashes and medals on guests, make it a white tie event ball gowns and such. 🤣

Nooooo. I want crowns and velvet and (fake) ermine and jewels and feathers and caps and capes and buckles and yes, damn it, I want silk stocking.
I am not ashamed!

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 22:05

@MarshaMelrose , yes! , I'm sad to say ... but I want it to be like the queens , I wasn't born then and only see film but I'd love to see it happen in real time! Please 🙏

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 22:05

It's a moment in history, that I could share 😊

But he's already shown us nothing, let alone a morning suit isn't going to confine him to the cheap seats.

See tantrums off then gurning at Auntie at Philip's funeral and centre stage (and apparently off-piste) at the subsequent memorial.

yep, me too. If it’s going to happen I want it ALL to happen. I love the pageantry and theatre. Some of the film Footage of the last coronation is extraordinary.

please note: I’m not a citizen so not paying for it, so I recognise that’s very easy for me to say.

CathyorClaire · 09/03/2023 10:03

I think it's quite remarkable people are happy to contemplate the idea of an odious, morally bankrupt oaf parading around in garments that are supposed to represent a high order of chivalry and honour (that word again) in the name of spectacle.

Bread and circuses indeed.

Whilst I don’t disagree with you, friend of quite a few sex offenders is playing the main part in this farcical play.

I agree.

And that's before we get on to fencing gifts given in good faith and accepting carrier bags stuffed with cash in further parallels.

The whole thing is very distasteful.

It is propaganda- subtle and not so subtle

Arguing over whether Andrew should wear his magic robe has the added benefit of implying that the magic robe has importance

I would hazard a guess that PA rarely experiences a day without being furious about something (According to rumour he shouts A LOT).

EdithWeston · 09/03/2023 15:29

Current members of the Order

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_Knights_and_Ladies_of_the_Garter

I would expect some to be robed. The slimming down is cutting the service from 3 hours to 90mins, and having 2000 guests rather than 8000. Not de-blinging.

So with reduced numbers, perhaps not all will be invited, and perhaps Andrew won't make the cut. But even if all are there, if the other Royal members are not in Garter robes, then he should follow suit in a suit. And leave the robes to the non-Royal members

True.

He has never had a reputation as the most placid royal. Even his nanny referred to him as 'Baby Grumpling'.

If only the wayward temperament had stopped at that...

And apparently multiple Very Important Magic Robes, Magic Oil and Magic grandchildren bourne canopies are proposed.

Them tourist dollars damn better come through...
