In brief the story says there is a huge profit this year in a Crown Estate asset and KC3 has asked that it go to be used for the wider public good rather than to the sovereign grant.

I’m sure a lot of people will comment that he could be doing more but at least he’s doing something.

It depends how you look at it

He knows the treasury would not let him keep that profit so he's trying to pre -emt that and gain a bit of good PR

The real question so why does this family claim to own the seabed around the UK ? Profits from sea bed lease should not be dependent on the largesse of whichever Windsor is up next

Now if he's listening to his PR people he will agree to cover the 100 million cost of his totally unnecessary coronation .
THAT would be meaningful

PS the royals do NOT own the crown estate - though they continue to try to give that impression

The government will decide what to do with the profits .

Good stuff KC

Sounds very positive. Didn’t realise off shore wind was so profitable! But great to see income back to treasury. I think it should be used for specific things rather than just in general pot

If you read the BBC article posted above it explains that basically the King has asked for a reduction in the Sovereign Grant (usually 25% of Crown Estate profits) so that more money can be spent on Public works.

Novella4 · 19/01/2023 10:46

It's misleading .
It isn't his to give :
He's preempting what the government will decide to do

Pay for your own unnecessary coronation Charlie - then we'll talk about 'good works'
