The direct quotes from the book don’t say that at all, the DM has ‘interpreted’ that and added the bits about kidneys etc. An heir and a spare is a common phrase.

I'm about half way through the book and the whole thing is far less sensational and much more sensible in context. All of the mad bits that have been hyped in the media (from a translation, don't forget) read far more soberly in the book itself.

Go and read it instead of getting your outrage from the bloody Mail.

OMG, I haven't read the link yet as cooking dinner but surely that would be spare Heir (ie whole person) and not spare parts for organ harvesting!😮. That can't possibly be in the book!! That is so awful that it's actually🤣

He has never struck me as a big Kazuo Ishiguro fan, but he's certainly taken one of his books to heart if that's really what he thinks....

Still on the plus side, that would put the Hewitt rumours to bed once and for all in case they didn't match.
