Has Harry outed himself on every detail of his life so the press can't hold stuff against him? (bearing in mind his pending lawsuits)

If you blab everything, even the bad stuff like drugs, there's literally nothing left he could be blackmailed with. He alluded to some really serious court stuff between him and the media.

I don't believe he has blabbed everything. Drugs - so what? It's 2023, who hasn't dabbled or knows someone who has? It's not shocking anymore. There'll be plenty he's held back, possibly like the alleged behaviour in the blind articles, that he can't spin for pity and goes way beyond just looking a bit edgy.

I thought it was more so his family couldn't hold it over him.

But also so there's nothing they have on him anymore, but plenty he has on them, combined with the certainty that he's fine with revealing private details of others' lives.

The ultimate blackmail negotiating position.

But actually I think he's not that strategic. I think he's a man in pain who has an agenda. Which may be the most dangerous type of person to negotiate with.

My impression was that he is more like a broken man, he has been poked and poked and poked until the point he has just thrown his hands up and said ok, if you are going to hound me regardless of what I say & where I am, let’s just talk about everything.

I think that's one aspect of this book actually, another other is his general lack of filter (e.g. about the boat peeing - the press wouldn't have known about that).

We all knew he was into drugs and sex before he met Meghan. That was never really a secret.

Wow do you really think that? The whole point about service is being totally missed. The Queen and now the King are in service of their people. They've literally dedicated their lives to this. It's not about popularity or ego. There's a rank to the RF that needs to be respected and observed.

As a PR girl I've worked in many corporates and there's absolutely a strategy around who in the leadership speaks on what topics, how and when. You can't have other leaders trying to compete with the CEO or each other, putting out news stories or trying to undermine or grab headlines at the same time as though they're in competition.

I've watched closely throughout and this is exactly what H&M were trying to do. This would be misconduct in any other organisation and result in instant dismissal.

I think he actually implied that it was his father who as a new king (at some point in the near-ish future) didn't want to be upstaged by a glamorous American actress.

I was shocked by that which is why it stuck. Maybe I misunderstood (seems there's a lot that's left open to interpretation...).

The late Queen gets a free pass as she was pretty much beyond criticism by dint of a lifetime of dedicated service, monogamy and the fact we never knew what she thought or even what was in her handbag (expect for a marmalade sandwich of course !). But she's gone - Charles and Camilla are probably too old and too set in their ways to make much change now and besides it's too late Harry has gone rogue and I believe most of what he says. If you let daylight into the majesty and mystery of the monarchy it begins to fall apart. Harry is shining one hell of a searchlight into its machinations just like his damaged mother before.

The part about thinking his mum was not dead for years after the accident is pretty awful. Packed off to boarding school with his brother who tells him "we don't know each other" . He talks about wanting to reopen the investigation into his mothers death. How photos from the scene were shown to him and he could see that the last thing his mother saw were camera flashes as they were reflected in the car window in the photos. No wonder he detests the press.

I think you have a point OP and thought the same myself.
I think the Wales were threatened by their popularity and William has control issues (and is unlikeable but his PR team will work on that as they did with Charles and Camilla).

For someone who claims to be so happy he certainly doesn't look it.

He's done it for money, thats all. Like any bully, he needs the press to hold things against him, how else can he play the victim?

Half in was unworkable and ridiculous of them to suggest it, yes. But I do think W and K probably felt insecure and jealous at all the (positive!) media attention H and M were getting initially. H was always more popular.

There's been no denial of stories being leaked by W&Ks press office as well as C&C.

That's pretty telling. I believe Harry on this plus the account of his mother's final moments, I can see where he is coming from. He wants freedom from anyone selling or trading stories on him.

The drugs stuff could come back to bite him on th arse. US Immigration Law has the power to ban / deport anyone from the country if they admit to taking drugs over the age of 21. This supersedes individual state law and doesn't matter what type of visa you have. I know someone who was deported for this reason despite being in a settled relationship with a young child who was a US citizen.

So Harry was extremely badly advised to tell Anderson Cooper that he did drugs in his 20s. This is America's opportunity to proudly demonstrate that they treat royals no differently from anyone else. I await developments with interest.
