AIBU to think Charles has had it hardest in the RF of our generation

I’m recent history anyway.

He was not allowed to marry the woman he truly loved. His marriage to Diana was an arranged marriage, was it not? I doubt that was easy what with her throwing herself down the stairs when pregnant and her bulimia, highly strung personality as well.

I suppose he couldn’t help not loving her but he was expected to marry right? His duty to the Crown as heir. Obviously we don’t get that, but he was trained from birth. Even after their divorce, what with her dying and him getting so much hate and blame, he never got any peace until he finally was able to marry Camilla. Then his son started his massive, long drawn out tantrum, his Dad then his Mum died in a relatively short time frame while said son’s tantrum was ongoing. Now he has to try to step into the boots of the longest reigning Monarch while son’s tantrum is getting more out of control.

He was obviously also raised to be King with all that responsibility. Not saying he’s particularly likeable or even nice but I think he’s had it much harder than Harry in the great scheme of things.

Both Prince Harry and King Charles have had it very tough, but also had an insane amount of privilege, good will, access to people who can mentor and help them.

But losing your mum as a child is hard. The hardest.

Sorry meant to add, of course Harry lost his Mother as a child which would have been massively traumatic and a great tragedy (as did William) but I’m thinking from the angle of being a member of the RF and the ‘spare’ which is what he’s whining about in his book.

He was allowed to marry who he wanted at least.

I know he’s a generation before, but Prince Philip I would say had an absolutely horrific life early on.

Goes for William too, who also had the completely inappropriate pressure of being his mother's confidante, and who didn't have the relative freedom and choices going forward as his brother.

Camilla wanted to marry Parker Bowles - she didn't want Charles.

The worst trauma has to be losing your mum when you're a kid.
