If a royal couple divorced with no children

If a royal couple got divorced with no children, what effect on the ex-wife would this have, would this effect the type of divorce settlement they would receive and the media interest in them after the divorce if there are no royal children involved?

Ot would probably depend on the woman and how she chose to live life afterwards. So if she was already famous before, of she pursued fame after etc or just moved away and tried to get on with life quietly

Re settlement i assume it would depend on the length of the marriage but yes would obv be less of it isn't covering care of 3 kids

Eaumyword · 11/08/2021 21:31

I'm only speculating of course, but I'd expect media interest would still be high, along the lines of searching for reasons other than incompatibility for the split. The RF are an enigma to many and recent situations of 'raising the curtain' only seem to spark more curiosity.
I'd also expect that they would receive a good settlement with an NDA to keep all those royal secrets tight to their chests.

AtillatheHun · 11/08/2021 21:39

well Capt Mark Phillips and Autumn Philips seem to have got away relatively unscathed even with children and they were married to the monarch's only daughter / monarch's grandson

burnoutbabe · 11/08/2021 22:13

I can't I shine much media interest in either husband of Beatrice and eugiene if they divorced as there really isn't much interest in them now, beyond the normal hello type coverage of posh people's doings.

Or they may stay friendly and attend events (sure I saw Anne's first husband at something recently)

curiouslythinking · 11/08/2021 23:17

I was thinking of wives of royals as they get more media coverage than let’s say the husbands of Beatrice and Eugenie.

I expect she would get some financial benefit from it but obviously not as much as if she children.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a woman married to a royal who is childless but they must have existed.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2021 11:38

It probably depends on

  • how close to the centre they are.
  • how much they want to be famous

They've all got children but there was obv massive interest in Diana and Fergie.

Even without kids, there would be massive interest in Kate (so close to the centre and so long together) or Meghan (close to the middle, all the ongoing issues and being famous already). Harry's significant ex's generated column inches for new relationships / stuff linked to him but not much else.
Autumn Phillips has had virtually no publicity but then she really only got some when she was with the kids on a play date somewhere with Kate. She might generate a few inches if she dates anyone significant but it's unlikely because her and Peter have always stayed out the limelight.
By the time James is dating, people will be looking at who George os looking at

Samcro · 12/08/2021 11:42

I couldn't pick a lot of royal spouses out in a line up.
(Peter out of the limelight???~~~~)

I admit i don't watch the he news much but have i missed something? You never seem to hear much about him? I'd probably recognise Autumn more than him. But maybe he's much more public than i realise
Samcro · 12/08/2021 11:57

just remember he did a milk advert.

Driftingbees · 12/08/2021 11:58

Have you received a proposal op? Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 12/08/2021 12:06

Ok point taken. But a Hello interview in 2007 and a Chinese milk add isn't applying for Celebrity Big Brother and falling out of night clubs with the Nanny. They've LARGELY been under the radar, esp since the girls were born.

OP I think that your question might well be answered by some revelations and events within the next couple of years. A rapidly-increasing number of non-gullible people are joining up the dots.

To those who like to pile in with the usual disingenuous: "What on earth are you referring to?" posts, please don't bother; I think we are all well aware of what I am referring to.

I genuinely have no idea what you are on about!

Watching with interest!

garlicandsapphires · 13/08/2021 02:12

Camilla??!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/08/2021 02:19

Yeah was just going to say Camilla. I bet that would cause loads of media attention.

Camilla. Not childless but no royal blood children

I bet you tapped your nose knowingly when you typed that.
Plumtree391 · 13/08/2021 14:39

I haven't a clue who is being referred to.

Camilla has no children with Prince Charles but they don't seem likely to divorce (unless she has Andrew Parker Bowles on the side, old habits die hard and all that).

ShippingNews · 13/08/2021 14:41

Considering that they are both in their 70's, do you really think that C and C would get a divorce ?

LolaSmiles · 13/08/2021 14:44

I would imagine it would depend on how public they have been, how long the marriage was, and whether there was enough desire for the press to let the vultures out.

Sadly, I think the biggest difference would be whether the spouse was male or female. A divorcing non-royal husband would probably barely make the back pages, but a non-royal wife would be milked for weeks as they try to unpick what her posture when carrying shopping says about her mental health, complete with a circle of shame highlighting that that has let herself go.

This. Not that I’ve looked in depth but I am surprised there hasn’t been a hatchet job on Autumn Phillips yet

There’s no possibility whatsoever. Anyone can see they absolutely adore each other.
