Do royal palaces have catering kitchens and normal one?

I can't see the Queen toddling into a giant stainless steel kitchen for a cup of tea? Do they have their own little kitchens for snacks or is everything cooked by chefs?

I once stayed in a very grand house (stately home, with staff), and tried to make myself a cup of tea in the enormous kitchen, only to be shooed out by mortified staff. A couple of minutes later the butler found me with a beautifully made tea tray.

So I would imagine that the Queen doesn't make her own tea. She would ring a bell and ask for it!

Well, apparently the queen has her own kettle, whether or not she has a little kitchen.

I doubt the Queen makes anything herself, she'll ring for a maid or Butler.

I believe I remember Kate & William saying they often cook their own food so suspect they will have their own kitchen. I don't think they'd use the huge catering style one as they're quite overwhelming for a home cook but I don't know any of this for certain!

In Apt 1A in Kensington Palace there was a legendary catering kitchen that Tony Armstrong Jones designed with this ridiculous huuuuge cooker hood. Google it, it was an awful thing.

Anyway W&K renovated it and ditched the hood and put in a new catering kitchen, but I think reports at the time stipulated there was a kitchenette also.

I've stayed in a Royal Palace and there was a kitchen off a naice but non-state dining room. But dated but all the stuff you need. Kitchen had kettle and toaster and all, Highgrove condiments, and the plates and teapot were all stamped with the castle monogram.

I hope the unions are keeping an eye on all these little kettles and kitchenettes. We don't want the toffs whipping up too many snacks for themselves. It puts working class folk in the dole queue. Do I recollect that Lord Linley said that Princess Margaret made salmon mousse?

I don’t think royals snack much. They stay slim and one reason is sticking to mealtimes.

I think the Queen now just has the staff do everything for her but I remember reports that when she was younger (under 90!) and in Scotland she sometimes stays in a smaller house while Balmoral is still open to the public and likes to pitch in with the washing up occasionally - I bet it's a bit like a camping holiday for her where you get to enjoy roughing it a little.

There was that story that Margaret Thatcher sent her a pair of fancy washing up gloves after watching the Queen wash the dishes in Scotland.

For William and Kate they have a big family room kitchen in Norfolk where they all like to hang out - so I imagine minimal staff otherwise it would be annoying for the staff. The Queen said she found it peculiar that they were 'living' in the kitchen.

The White House has a family kitchen in the residence where the First Family can whip up a batch of cookies or whatever. Interestingly, it was installed by Jackie Kennedy, who I doubt did much cooking herself.

I’m not sure any of them have a household staff big enough or entertain on a scale sufficient to need a catering kitchen other than at BP and Windsor castle. But they may have restaurant standard I guess.

I would imagine somewhere like the apartments at Kensington Palace or Anmer Hall have a separate staff kitchen?

Here is Kate’s kitchen before it was refurbished at Amner.

I think also there was quite a bit of eyebrow raising at the cost of the refurbishment of Apartment 1a as they had a private kitchen and staff kitchen installed that I think tax payers footed the bill for iirc.
