Harry and Oprah have worked together for 18 months

Prince Harry has been working for 18 months on a mental health series for AppleTV, which he has co-created and executive produced with Oprah Winfrey. This is on the Sussex Royal website.

This should have been mentioned on the "interview" as there's no way that the interview isn't biased?

Why does the interview need to be unbiased? Was it ever supposed to be?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/03/2021 20:56

It wasn’t really an interview was it though? It was more of a hagiography to launch them as personalities for their new ventures.

Ginger1982 · 14/03/2021 20:57

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned, albeit briefly, in passing and not in great detail.

ABitOfAShitShow · 14/03/2021 20:57

It wasn’t even pretending to be an unbiased bit of journalism. It was story time with Meg and Haz.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 14/03/2021 20:59

Is it not common knowledge?
I thought everyone had spewed the requisite outrage about this last year?

It's hard to keep up with the outrage; so many atrocities with these two. Should have known the way it was going to go when that avocado rumour lit up.

teezletangler · 14/03/2021 21:00

She did mention in passing that they are working together. However did anyone actually think it was going to be a hard-hitting interview?? This was not going to be Emily Maitlis and Andrew, it was designed to be a soft ball way for them to get across their side. Hagiography is a perfect description Grin

WonkyCactus · 14/03/2021 21:01

I would pay good money to see Emily Maitlis interview Harry and Meghan!

Doingitaloneandproud · 14/03/2021 21:12

Of course it was bias, it was a chat show. Not a proper interview, designed to garner the maximum amount of sympathy for them.

Well that back fired then !!!!

Harry has been working on a series for mental health for 18 months? And he could not ask for help for his wife and was embarrassed about it? Perhaps they should let someone else do the series.

23PissOffAvenueWF · 15/03/2021 01:26

And Doria, Meghan’s mum, is in Oprah’s neighbourhood yoga class.

Unbiased journalism is a thing of the dim and distant past, and besides, this particular interview never made any claims of being unbiased.

This ^^ is definitely more to the point.

Honestly, the two off them think we all came down in the last shower.

SillyOldMummy · 15/03/2021 02:00

It didn't claim to be unbiased, but it did start off with, "so let's be clear, you arent being paid for this, you haven't been told the questions in advance..." in my mind that does lead you to think, "oh these people aren't two buddies hanging out." Which they clearly are.

The more I read about H&M and the Oprag interview, the more nasty the taste it has left in my mouth. They are both in it for the money, if you ask me.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 02:08

Never mind that what Oprah should have asked Harry is why he was willing to be interviewed on CBS.

In 2004 CBS was condemned when it was the only broadcaster or publisher to show the ‘distasteful’ photo of Princess Diana taken moments after the 1997 car crash in Paris in which she died.

When the same photo later appeared in an Italian magazine, Prince William and Prince Harry issued a rare statement condemning it, saying they were ‘deeply saddened that such a low has been

No Piers would be more fun Shock
rosetylersbiggun · 15/03/2021 02:14

I'd pay good money to see any interviewer not in the pay of the RF do a no-holds-barred interview with any of the racist bullying senior royals.

CreosoteQueen · 15/03/2021 02:20

The interview was never presented as being unbiased or independent. It was always openly about giving Harry and Meghan the opportunity to share their story on their terms, not an independent investigation. Oprah is hugely friendly towards the couple, it wasn’t hidden that she was on their side for it.

So are you saying they all are racist and bullying or do you have particular ones in mind?
cyclingmad · 15/03/2021 07:24

So what? Literally does no matter one bit. He is now working earning his own money and not leeching off the tax payer. They wanted to speak out and done it and watching the interview I think the truth is always somewhere in the middle.

Either way people are obsessing over the tiniest things now its really weird.

The rest of the RF aren't saints themselves and no better than them either so they don't speak out but in not doing that just meant they allow people to be bullied and torn to shreds in the press. They don't try to stop it, they don't try to improve things or change just use the tired excuse of thats how things are done. Meanwhile the world is moving on.

I actually have to say good for them for leaving and bow paying their own way in the world, that I can support, what I'd rather not do is have my taxes support an outdated institution that has people who are racist, misogynist etc. Unfortunately that is a choice I do not have

Hmm

Definitely this.

Also, "not paid for this" doesn't mean that Harry wasn't a co-producer so earning money in that way.

"Haven't been told the questions in advance" doesn't mean that Oprah hasn't been told what issues H&M want raised in the "interview".

I see Gayle King (Oprah’s former producer and now presenter herself) is giving a running commentary on private conversations between members of the British royal family.

Is there nothing interesting going on in America for her to discuss?

And how can anyone mend relations with H&M if they’re going to feed every phone call to CBS news??

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/03/2021 17:34

CBS the only news channel to show a picture on TV of Diana as she was dieing.

Harry condemned a French publication a few years later when published that photo

Harry is a totally...............(Feel free to fill in the blanks. Pretty sure William has!)

If it was true that the two had indeed spoken - you can’t blame the royal family for saying ‘stuff this, we aren’t communicating with blabby the blabber mouth, thanks’
unchienandalusia · 16/03/2021 17:40

Of course it was biased. In H&Ms favour. With doctored press articles designed to mislead the audience. Despicable.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 16/03/2021 18:53

Well yes it wasn’t exactly a in-depth interview warts and all was it? I suspect another production company is probably working away on ‘the other side of the story’. And that’s not going to be pretty is it (truthful? Who the hell knows).

You don’t play with fire and but expect to get scorched. Y
