Where's the best place to go stand and see some of the wedding with a 5 yr old?

HI, we're in London and would like to go and see some of the wedding somehow with my 5 year old. Just get a bit of the atmosphere and hopefully see everything go past, hopefully without getting crushed, etc. Where should we head to. Any vantage points that would be best for us and what time to get there! I'm not all that tall and obviously DS isn't either, but we live in hope...just want him to be able to tell his grandchildren he was there when monarchy is long since abolished...

I mean when he's a grandad and monarchy has been abolished (maybe) he will be able to say he saw the wedding of King William, etc

Breakfast news is showing that opposite the Abbey is already lined, and there are some along the Mall. It's a short route and will be crowded the whole way.

You'll need to be as early as you can tomorrow. There are no obvious vantage points as the route is flat - only possibility I can think of are the sets of steps on the N side of the Mall. The whole route will be several deep - at least yr 5yr old may see something from your shoulders perhaps (check your not ruining someone's day by completely blocking theirs though)

Charles and Di had a longer route (to St Pauls), but there's been such a fuss about costs that I doubt we'll see that again, even though it's so much better for the general public who want to be there and stand a change of seeing something.

Blimey opposite the Abbey is already lined?! It's freezing out there this morning! They'll be in for a cold night; Loonies....
Hmmmm... maybe we can just soak up the atmosphere and wander round seeing all the folks flag waving. I remember at Di's just setting off at the last min and heading for Buckingham Palace and seeing the kiss on the balcony. Maybe the kiss on the balcony is a possibility as at least it's high up , though I doubt 5 year old will be able to make out what's going on...oh dear I just thought it a shame to watch it on TV when we actually live nearby...

I have just walked the route and the abbey is busy and the mall is getting so. To be honest what I would do with a 5year old is get up quite early, head over there to catch the atmosphere, and then decide whether you want to stay or go back to watch on TV.

Hi Cleanandclothed thanks for that. Yes I think we're definitely gonna leave the option for going home and watching on telly open..but I'd like to go see the atmosphere and he would too I think. He's busy making a union jack flag...

Are there any big screens in the parks? You could soak up the atmosphere and watch on TV at the same time.

I took my DC to watch the marathon a couple of weeks ago and it was impossible to see anything, even where the crowds were only couple of people deep. DC were frustrated and bored, until we got lucky with a place right on the barriers. I think people can be quite selfish nowadays, no-one seems to let children get to the front.

You could go this evening if it would suit you, though bedtime is an issue, but I think there will be a feel of the atmosphere as people already camped out have a wander around the the Palace and the Abbey and tommorrow stay at home and watch it in comfort on the television.

In front of a very large television.

Sorry!

Watching the 6 O'Clock News - it's heaving outside the Abbey, pavements full. All the Mall is lined, top to bottom - it's probably too late to get the front row now.

On the plus, an extra 1600 portaloos were delivered today.
