We lost our baby cat today

Our 11-month old ginger got hit by a car and we are devastated. We've had him and his sister since they were 8 weeks. He was a real softie, scared of anybody who didn't live here but loved snuggling on our bed every night, and he had the softest fur. His sister doesn't know what's going on and keeps calling for him. 😥any advice on what to do for her?

My DD lost her female kitten in the summer. She too was hit by a car. Her brother seemed a bit lost at first but he has settled down just fine. My DD was heartbroken.

We are heartbroken too, 2 teenage DS and my DH so upset. He was beautiful

Flowers It's so hard when one is left behind. My sister's cat lost his brother and was calling and looking for him for weeks - he responded well to my sister adopting a new kitten; he found the kitten wanting to play a nuisance but it seemed to his mind off his lost brother and he perked up quickly.

Oh OP I'm so very sorry for your loss, he was beautiful. Your wee girl is grieving and it will take time for her. Did you let her see her brother once he had passed? I've heard it can give the ones that's left a better understanding. I've done it in the past but it's hard to tell if it made a difference.

What a lovely little boy. So sorry. I have no advice but just wanted to give condolences.

So sorry. He was beautiful.

We lost 1 of our 2 dbs. He pined badly for 7 months.. I caved and got a dkitten.. Bonded within 2 weeks. Best decision for us. So sorry about your dcat op.

@Eastereggsboxedupready that's useful to know. We have another older cat as well so our girl isn't on her own, but she's obviously not as close to him. She's still running to the cat flap every time it goes in the hope of seeing her brother, it's so sad. But it's only been 3 days so I know it will take time. I think it will take longer for the humans in the house to feel better.

I’m so sorry OP.

My 11 month old girl died suddenly in January and I still find myself having a cry every now and then.

Be kind to yourself, he was a beautiful boy x

This might be too late - we were told to let the remaining cat smell the body so they know what's happened.

HerodAntipasti · 21/02/2023 18:54

I’m so sorry. What a sweet boy.

Oh I am so so sorry :((

Exactly the same thing happened to our 14 month old boy just three weeks ago (I started a thread here about it). It's absolutely devastating. My boy got hit by a van just outside our house.

We'd also had him and his sister since they were babies (10 weeks). For the first week or so she was definitely confused, wandered around the house looking for him, and kept to herself. But she's now starting to get back to a kind of new normal, and is spending more time with us. Actually is possibly liking the increased attention from us - he was always the more sociable and demanding one, and definitely monopolised me more as we had a real bond, so now it's just her she's curling up with me where he used to in bed and on the sofa. It's lovely but still a bit bittersweet for me...

Your little chap was absolutely gorgeous, what a beautiful face. I am so sorry, and know exactly what you're going through. It's 3 weeks tomorrow for me, and I have cried every day, but the awful rawness is getting better. I've got two teenagers too, my dd in particular is still very sad about it, but they're ok.

Lots of love to you Flowers
