A cat started to visit us in the summer. After some FB posting, we identified him as belonging to a reasonably close neighbour we didn’t know. A paper collar confirmed his home. This cat and ours are both cat flap cats who come and go as they please and seem to have reached a position of reasonable friendliness. For a while, we exchanged FB messages with Interloper Cat’s family but that has tailed off and Interloper Cat is becoming increasingly friendly. There is usually dried food down for our cat, and Interloper sometimes shares it. I’ve messaged again to say that Interloper is spending a lot of time here and what do they want us to do? No reply-even during last week’s storms. At what point do we decide he’s our cat now? At the moment, he is behaving like a stray with benefits- we are taking no responsibility for him-although he now has his own place on the sofa! Should we? What can we do?
