Cat litter advice

Very new to cat ownership. I have a 5 month old rescue kitten. Very good at using litter tray (housed) but loves to throw the litter round a LOT. Loads of tiny little grey bits everywhere. Also is clumps so much it’s hard to get rid of clumps?

please can anyone advise me what Is the best litter that doesn’t cost £20 per month, which seems a lot - or am I naive? I don’t even know how often you should change it but I’ve changed the whole thing twice in 3 weeks!

thanks

My cat is fully grown, I charge her litter every few days. You need a scoop to get the clumps out. I prefer the wood pellet litter, it's less messy I find and smells pleasant.

I second the wood pellet litter. I have a sieve litter tray with a hood cover. I use Morrisons own brand litter.

First of all you need to pay the cat tax ( photo of said kitten 😃)

I have found litter trays with hoods/ covers are better as the cat can't kick litter out so much. To start with take the door off it until your kitten is use to it ( a few days is usually enough) .
Uou can buy rubber honey comb type mats to put infront of the tray that help remove the bits of litter stuck to his/ her paws.
They are not brilliant imo but they are only a few pound so it's worth a go.
My cat uses Biokitty ( I will find a link in a minute) .
It sounds a bit backwards but I find the more litter you put in the tray the better it absorbs and the less it spreads. I keep it at about 4 inches deep or more
Think of it like if you had one sheet of kitchen roll and poured 100ml of water on it the water would spread out a lot , if you had 10 sheets and 100ml the water stays more or less in one spot so that's all you need to remove.
I pick out the worst of the wee and poo every other day then once a week give it a good clean . This removes about ¼ to ½ of the litter, I top it up to the right level.
I completely empty it ( after letting the level drop down a bit ) about once every 6 weeks .

wood pellet here too, and it’s compostable.
