Scooting

My 4.5 year old cat has started scooting on her scratch mat. I have already taken her to the vet who couldn’t find anything wrong. They emptied her anal glands, took her temperature and gave her a general check up and a prescription for metacam but she is still doing it.

I have an angled cat scratching mat, and this is the only thing she scoots on. She kind of uses it like a slide. I did wonder if she could be doing it for fun but google says no! She rarely did it before I got this scratcher, only once a couple of years ago and vet suspected a UTI. A course of metacam sorted it but it hasn’t this time. She’s up to date with her flea and worming treatments.

Shes an indoor cat, generally happy and healthy. Plays, eats and drinks and no litter tray issues. No redness or excess licking.

Before I put her through the trauma of another vet visit I wondered if anyone had experienced this and what resolved it? She hates the vet to the extent that she pants for an hour afterwards.

Picture for tax!

Judging by the photo, she's not exactly stressed out by anything, is she?😂

She could just enjoy the feeling of it?

Just because Google says no doesn't mean you don't have a cat who enjoys unusual sensations. It's like the different types of surfaces cats like to rub their heads against - may be rough, may be smooth, could be soft or hard, they all have their preferences.

(Of course I could be smutty & suggest she's getting a thrill out of it, like women leaning up against the tumble dryer) 😜

No she’s pretty chilled, although will run for her life if I open the vacuum cleaner cupboard!

Ha ha to a smutty cat! Not impossible I suppose! I will keep my eye on her though.

you can send off some poo to companies to do a worm count. that would be my next step. just to check all types of worm have been killed.
