Itchy cat!

I’m at a loss and hundreds of pounds later I’m stuck on what to do.

I have two moggies both aged 2 they came together from a rescue. The past year one has become so itchy we’ve tried steroids, anti anxiety medication, anti depressants, parasite tests, fungal tests everything and she’s still so itchy that sometimes she will pull her fur out. At a last ditch attempt I’ve bought some stupidly expensive hydrolysed food but if that doesn’t work, what next?

has anybody else had this problem, the other cat is fine, they still snuggle together occasionally and both have access to inside and outside but are locked in at night.

I’ve got the same with mine. I don’t know what to do. The steroid injection worked for a week or two. I comb her every day and try to sneak in fish oil in her food. She loves the comb; I think it helps relieve the itching.

How strange, it must be ‘something’ rather than depression or anxiety if it’s happening to your cat too. I feel so bad for her, she looks very uncomfortable!

It could be her food? Candles and air fresheners?

I’ve bought this silly expensive food to try, it came today so not had chance to try it yet she’s currently on Untamed. I’m going to cut back on everything perfumed and spay nothing!

Best of luck; I hope you get to the bottom of it. Is it seasonal by any chance? Is she allergic to fleas?

She’s had her flea treatment could she still be allergic? What can I give her?

I had a cat that was allergic to fleas. One year he got bitten by a flea and it took weeks to stop him scratching even though he had flea treatment and vet said he didn't have fleas. He was given a steroid injection that worked for 2 weeks then scratching stated again. Back to vet. Cat still didn't have fleas a second injection sorted it out. Vet told me cat is very allergic to fleas.

My cat has this and it’s eczema. Your cat could be allergic to absolutely anything. There’s blood test available to find out what, but it isn’t cheap. (Mine is allergic to ivy in our garden and the microscopic mites in her dry food). You don’t really have to find out what she’s allergic to, the treatment is Atopica, which if you have pet insurance should be covered.

Yes we do have insurance, I’ll get onto the vets and ask for some. I asked the vet about allergy testing and he said it wasn’t advisable as they will pick up on anything ??? It put me off buying one. If it doesn’t get better with the good swap I think it will be my next move!

Ok, the dose is matched to the weight of your cat so the vet will have to advise. It can be added to food but not ideal if you have multiple cats. I give mine her dose with a syringe. Never have any flare ups.
