Resiting Litter Tray

I moved in April and cannot have a cat flap in this house. Little old Ruby (f19) has adapted well. The litter tray has always been in the family bathroom which isn’t really used.
A couple of weeks ago, I had visitors who would be using the bathroom so I set up an additional tray in the en-suite where she sleeps. She’s now using both trays!!
I’d like to get rid of the en-suite tray (much closer for her) and go back to one tray in the family bathroom - she seems to use both trays without a particular preference.
Would it be best to just remove the additional tray? And hope for the best? We would be grateful for any advice please. Well, I would, she’s completely unbothered 😀

The best way in my experience is the gradual move - move the one you no longer want a little way each day towards the other one, until they are side by side. That way you avoid the risk of your cat turning up to where they think it should be, not finding it, and using the floor instead.

Received wisdom is one tray per cat plus one - so two for a single cat - but you say she was fine with one, so you could remove it once it's been resited. Some cats use one for wee and one for poo, though, so make sure she hasn't started doing that before you take one away.

If the additional tray is in the en suite, I’d just remove it and keep that door closed for a while. If she’s still using the original tray, she obviously knows it’s there and will carry on.

We've always bought into the one tray per cat plus one "rule", so I'd be inclined to leave both out for her, especially as she's an older girl and maybe needs to go urgently.

I’d just get rid of it and shut the door. My cats never used a second tray, even when they were sharing.

Thanks, all. I did just close the door and it’s been fine 😁
