Indoor cat vanished - starting to panic

She stays indoors by choice and has only ever ventured onto the patio a few times since I got her nearly a year ago when she was 4 months old. She's quite a skittish cat and does like time alone in corners, but nonetheless does normally come in the sitting room in the evenings and does sit on my lap. She was on my lap for quite a while this afternoon and then ds fed her somewhere between 5 and 6.

Around half an hour ago we realised we'd not seen her since and looked for her and she is nowhere. We've been all over the house (it is fairly big over 3 floors, some of it quite messy - 2 x ds) and she is nowhere to be seen. We do have a cat-flap (2 other cats) but she has gone through it around twice in her life and always come pretty much straight back in, nonetheless we have looked in the garden. It's like she's disappeared off the face of the earth.

We have obviously gone a few hours without seeing her before but we have never looked for her so thoroughly and been calling her to get nothing. Maybe we have freaked her out and she's hidden better? but I'm worried she has randomly decided to go out and will now be lost.

Any ideas?

Inside the sofa. That's where ours go when we can't find them.

My cat is timid and will hide under our neighbours car or a car across the road.

Mine comes at the rattle of a Dreamies packet. Does yours have a similar signal?

try all the cupboards, the kids bedrooms, the washer/dryer/washing hamper, behind the tv, under any units.

Ours go to the back under our very low bed - no idea how they get under there!

Shut in a cupboard? Or the garage if you have an internal door? That's where ours normally ends up.

Any cupboards or drawers etc been opened and shut recently? Current cat is a bugger for getting in the airing cupboard, and my childhood cat was once found after a couple of hours in the drawer of a divan bed before anyone knew she was missing (including the cat, she was fast asleep!)

Ours does in the pull out drawers under our bed.

Little madam appeared on the stairs shortly before bedtime. Goodness knows where she had been....

Cats have a remarkable ability to silently teleport.

Do you have a dirty clothes basket? I had a cat who would do exactly what your cat did and I think he might have jumped into it for a snooze. It was a material one with a wooden frame and a material flap type lid. I never found where he was hiding but he was like Mr Benn's shop keeper.

Still snarky. I didn't say I hope the cat is found did I? was merely making a suggestion where the cat could be hiding whilst it's owner was frantically looking for it as it could happen again.

But the owner was no longer frantically looking 🤷‍♀️. The thread was only around 12 posts long. The OP had posted a good outcome update 10 days before you posted. Seriously, I’m not trying to be snarky. But at least try to read all of the OP’s posts first. What if their latest post had been a very sad outcome, the last thing they’re going to want to see (sometime later) is a “helpful” have you thought of this post. It’s not like you had to wade through pages of posts (hint - you don’t, just look at all posts by an OP).
