Litter clumping issues

I have one cat and 4 trays, she uses all of them at any one time. All of them are the same tray and the same litter.

I was having issues with one of the trays not clumping properly so I chucked it all and changed brand last week. However it's still not clumping properly but it's fine in all of the other trays.

The dodgy tray is on the half landing and closest to the front door and next to the wall of the downstairs toilet. We have no issues with damp, it's not cold, house is well insulated so I'm a bit perplexed.

Anyone able to shine any light on this??

The litter in my downstairs tray seems to be more 'damp' generally and its in a corner of 2 outside walls. Theres no visible damp on the walls but I put a dehumidifier in the corner behind the tray and it has helped. Its just one of the small unibond ones that you put tablets in so its quite discreet.

Mine is in the corner, on one side it's the downstairs toilet and the other side the garage but the other trays are in the lounge next to an actual outside wall or on the top landing next to the ensuite wall.

Just looked at the dehumidifier and it's too big to go next to the tray and there is nowhere to put it otherwise unless it goes high up above the tray but would it be pointless being so far away?

Ah okay. I'm not sure how close the dehumidifier would need to be. Possibly okay further away if a small space. I havent tried these personally but I've seen people put little dehumidifier bags on their car dashboards to help with condensation, if that would be small enough to wedge near the tray!

I guess it also depends on how curious your cat is too, if they are liable to eat the dehumidifier bag! I havent researched them so havent checked pet friendliness. I will post a pic, prob take some time to be approved.

Oh one of them could work! She definitely wouldn't eat them, too old and wise (ish) for that these days.

Might be small enough too so that it could go to the side/back.

The tray in question is basically in the middle of the stairs so go 2 stairs down and you are in the hall. To the right as you are looking front on is the wall to the downstairs toilet, to the back, the garage. Go left and you have the rest of the stairs so it's very open.

I'm not entirely convinced it's damp though..

I'm planning on getting new trays in January anyway, finally upgrading to stainless steel so maybe I'll wait and see what happens then. If it happens again it's definitely the location but we are so limited for space that it has to go there.

One of mine is rather daft and would try ripping it apart! He eats loose bits of carpet that have come up with his claws. Eejit!

I'm not an expert on damp, and I dont have visible damp so I do wonder if its at normal levels for the house but just not for the litter!

Finding an ideal location can be hard. I have one tray at the bottom of the stairs and the other in the spare bedroom. Not ideal but needs must!

Hope the new trays help sort the issue. May look into stainless steel ones too, mine are due an upgrade!

It's so hard! I have 2 in the lounge under the coffee tables then one on the stairs and one at the top of the landing. The latter 2 are not in an ideal place and I'm very limited to the size of the tray because of the house! Even if I wanted litter trays in the kitchen, bathrooms or bathrooms there is literally nowhere for them to go.

Luckily we only have one cat with full access to the outdoors and if in the future we get a pair of kittens we can have the 4 trays and an outdoor one in the temporary catio.

We use these in our bathroom - as long as they are in the wider vicinity they will pick up all the moisture in a room

Can I ask why you have four trays for one cat? It seems like an awful lot!

It is an excessive amount but she has a habit of going in the house if we don't!

She's getting older and doesn't seem to want to go outside to the toilet much these days so I'm just trying to make life easier for all of us.

Does it work if it's not a room but an open area because this tray is on the stairs.
